It's a shame this didn't come out last year, NESTA was running a competition for around £35k for a new lock design... it ended up going to something that for all intensive purposes is useless (BikLox). This I suspect could of potentially won it.

Might be worth contacting BikeWorks I believe they rehabilitate bike thieves from time to time so they might be able to give it a real test, the tests in the video aren't particularly impressive as it doesn't look like your trying to break your product (why would you as the designer?).

Good luck with the kickstarter, if things don't work out shoot me a PM.

    Geep and dicki on board

    PM me.

PM sent, happy to help out both as another body and funding, I watched them last year and they must have a stash nearby as I saw the same people leave and come back several times. I even approached some private detectives last year to do just what your talking about (find their stash) but they lost interest.

    Ha, gets better.

Just received an email and apparently one of the wheels isn't mine.

Assume that'd be the one that I didn't explain and point out supporting evidence that its mine.

    Bikes have three wheels right?

Have you made any progress? I can put you in touch with a journalist if you like as it's an interesting story.

@Velocio, I'm guessing your eBay revenue was a bulk of the affiliate revenue. If so the lack of it picking back up was down to a few changes eBay made in their affiliate programme.

It used to be that someone clicking on an eBay link had a cookie for 7 days and anything they bought in that 7 days gave you a cut. This covered my hosting costs and also provided a bit of money for competitions/advertising.

Since September however they've reduced that to 24 hours so anyone that snipes an auction (90% of people) won't result in you getting paid if it's outside the 24 hours since they clicked your link, I personally saw my revenue drop 90%.

Not sure but it looks like it. Left it locked to a tall lamp-post on a busy corner for ~30 minutes. Came back and the bike was gone but my lock was still locked in place to the post. I did toy with the idea of replacing the lock a few years back when I saw how easily Kryptos could be picked but it was new and expensive at the time. It's a Krypto Evolution (small orange one)?! Gutted to lose my Surly, to say the least, naturally!

That doesn't sound like it was picked, if it was they wouldn't take the time to lock it back together... Was it a cylinder lock (the top one in this picture)?

Could the way you locked your bike not have been quite right? (i.e they removed a part and it freed the bike)

when you are buying a bike also you can check if its been reported stolen by puttinf the frame number into a website like this

    https://www.bikeregister.com/bike-checker

Might I recommend CheckThatBike! (disclaimer I own/run the site).

It combines all the free to check registers, so you can search across multiple sites in a single hit of the button. I've also got frame numbers from ETA Insurance on bikes their customers report as stolen and fairly soon I hope to have a few police forces on board providing checks against stolen bike reports.

P.S Also the checklist goes into a bit more detail on how to avoid a stolen bike.

Hi all, trying to spread some love for the recently bereft of their bikes. It's cold comfort but kinda nice to know that I'm not the only one heartbroken with bike theft this week.

I found this advice good for keeping up moral: http://stolen-bikes.co.uk/recovering-your-stolen-bike/ I spoke to the guy who built my bike and he said that keeping an eye out over coming months is no bad thing, bikes sometimes take a while to resurface. But hope lives eternal...

Let me know if anyone wants to do a joint lookaround Brick Lane/New Covent Garden Market one weekend. And I'll keep a look out for the bikes recently posted, grateful if you can return the favour.

Hi thanks for the link (that's my website), definitely go for a look around the markets having been to Brick Lane myself you can tell they shift a load of bikes over the weekend.

One thing I did notice is they seem to come and go with different bikes, so they may be storing them on bike racks close to the market (on one occasion I spotted them selling a bike, that I had previously spotted at some racks opposite the brick lane bike shop).

If you could consider printing off a few of the other recent London thefts on the website, and keeping an eye out for those that would be greatly appreciated (If you spot any, let me know and I'll happily reward the effort with some vouchers, whether anything comes of it or not).
