    Yeah the 30% thing.

This https://www.gov.uk/tax-foreign-income/reĀsidence seems to say money from working abroad would be taxed "normally" if you are classed as resident in the UK. (ie as long as you live in Uk for more than xyz days per year)

    Urgh.

Okay, I know this might change soon with that stupid British exit from the EU thing, but...

Does anyone freelance in an EU country? And if so, can you tell me anything about invoicing?

Basically, I'm a sole trader and have spoke to a company (via recruiter) in Amsterdam about a job. If I went to live there as an employee I get a hefty tax break. But if you freelance (resident) there, then later get a job, you don't get the tax break.

So, I need to know if I can invoice a client in Amsterdam the same way as I do in the UK. e.g - My residence is in UK, I travel to Amsterdam and freelance for say 4 weeks. Then return to UK.

    I can't. My brain can't fix this.

    Just read a job ad:

"You use words to stage meaningful connections between people."

I need a new career. But I'm too old.

Fecking system is now saying I'm in credit. It can't be right. I'm sure it's not right. I think I will stay pay what I calculate I should pay.

@MCamb When you file the return online it brings up a page asking if you want to have Payments On Account reduced and if so to give your reasons why. If you're unsure, ring them up. It'll be a bit of a wait, but hey ho.

Yes. (I neglected that bit in the question)

Except now it says it will take 72 hours to process, but I need to pay by tomorrow. Bleeurgh.

Just spoke to HMRC call line. Didn't clear much up for me. Question:

The phone'helper' guy said i made payments on account in Jan 18 and July 18. He can see them.

My tax return is a larger number than these payments on account. (Cos 17-18 was better than 16-17)

So, do I just need to pay the difference?

I'm trying to do mine now. It's asking me to pay approximately equivalent to my last 3 payments (july/jan/july) all at once. no idea what's going on.

(my earnings have barely changed and will be going down for the next tax year)
