Quite a few folk on CS7 seem to take that advice rather too literally.

Some absolute bellcheese on Clapham Park Road this morning, happily cycling along on the pavement, across the pedestrian crossing (clue's in the name, mate) and onto the other pavement. All of this while the road was almost completely clear.

Compounded by Brompton riders trying to go up the inside of buses, RLJers a go-go and the general feeling of being in a swarm of arseholes means that quite often the worst thing about cycling to work is the other cyclists.

    Hello folks.

I'm planning on getting a Specialized Allez soon, and will almost certainly need to keep it outside. We have a bit of space out front, but the dimensions are just slightly less than the smallest pre-fab bike shed I've been able to find. We have about 180cm of clearance, while the smallest I can find online is 200cm.

I wondered about building my own, and if there are any freely available plans on t'interwebz that I could adjust for the size. It's more for protection from the elements, as I'll have a ground anchor for security, and will soon have a hedge in front of it so it's a bit less visible to the opportunist.

Has anyone built their own wee bike shed? Any tips or recommendations?

What's everyone's reaction of choice to some arsehole RLJing right in front of you?

I'm currently going with the classic British 'minor head shake so people know I'm annoyed without making a scene'. Timeless, and beautifully ineffective.

Any suggestions for improvements that won't get me punched in the face?

What did you search for, out of interest?

    I searched for williamchiklis.

So your suggestion is to search the email username of the chap selling the bike? Great help. A quick google of that doesn't bring up much, and as mentioned, I have no idea about the Fenocchio brand. I have no ideas which sites' reviews can and cannot be trusted, and so a message board seemed the obvious place to start.

The next time I need some petulant sarcasm, I'll get in touch.

^^ Sums up what a lot of new members probably feel I would say.

Hi Monthen, really depends on what you're after and the budget you have. If you're looking for an off-the-peg bike (complete from Evans etc) you can't go wrong with a Fuji Classic track. Another frame which is very popular round these parts is the Surly Steamroller. Search for both bikes and you'll surely get some hints on what you might want from your ride.

monthen, this just wasn't the right thread, your question was definitely valid though. i'd say get a surly steamroller, you will love it. look up the steamroller thread on here, tons of people do. i know you're on a budget but don't get something cheap and shitty, an otp steamroller is definitely worth it as it will last you bloody ages.

Thanks very much for the info, seems a good load of stuff to start with. Will have a look.

    Cheers.

Neither did I - I just UTFB and searched for terms in the gumtree ad.

So, search for terms about which I know nothing, to find a brand name about which I know nothing, or ask the lovely, approachable folk on a single-speed message board? No, completely unreasonable. My mistake.

Andyp, I tried Evans, and one or two other places. Folk in there are friendly enough, but I'd like to do some research before I buy anything. Given that I know almost nothing about the bikes, a friendly message board seemed the place to start.

    Sure I'll find one soon.

Fair enough. Not remotely interested in the hipster element. Just want something a bit lighter and nippier for getting around town. Quite a few bikehead mates have been telling me a single-speed is the way to go for city cycling.

Any ideas for what to look for? Where to go?

    Cheers

UTFS etc... It's free for all users.

Fenocchio bikes....cheap shite for gullible idiots

    Delightful, thanks.

How was I supposed to know that this bike is a Fenocchio? Thank you for the information, anyway.

    Hello folks

Apologies if this is the wrong thread, but I'm still at nursery status, so can't start a new one.

Have been cycling around London recently on a fairly hefty (13.4kg) GT Traffic 4.0, and been trying to use just the one gear to get into the idea of a single-speed, as they seem so much lighter and quicker.

If I was going to get one, I'd be on a seriously tight budget (would need to sell the Traffic, can't imagine I'd get much for it), and so I've been looking at gumtree. I know how to avoid the obviously stolen ones, and I was looking at this: http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/brand-new-single-speed-bikes-93kg-with-flip-flop-hub-for-freewheelfixed-gear-options/81751197

Can anyone tell me if it's likely to be any good, or if it's a cheap piece of rubbish? I really have no idea, and I can't afford to build my own from top quality parts. It seems a lot lighter, and although most of the parts aren't branded, I'm tempted to take a chance on it.

Any advice would be much appreciated, either on that bike, or how I might find another decent one for a similar price (if that's possible...)

    Thanks in advance

    Hello folks

My gf's bike was pinched from Lower Marsh in Lambeth yesterday, and she's heartbroken. It's a silver Giant XTC 4.5, on which she'd just put some road tires (mainly a commuting bike now we live in London). Has reasonably expensive lights on it (can't remember the brand, sorry), and a bottle bracket. I have been looking for a photo, but I'm pretty sure we don't have one, at least not with the new tyres.

I've managed to find the frame number, have reported it to the police and am keeping an eye on bikeshd and ebay. I'm planning a trip to Brick Lane market tomorrow, on the off-chance that it turns up there.

Does anyone have any advice on what I should do if I'm lucky enough to spot it? Will the police care enough to come along, or would I be better to try to take it back myself? I have proof of purchase (for the cops, not so much for the thief....)

Failing that, are there any other places I could look? Please feel free to call if you see it!

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Andy (oh seven five 38 four 9 oh one 79)
