Almost every working Omnium in London has 406 rim on the front. Tyres are wider, better quality and more readily available. A lot of the time your view of the front tyre will be obscured and I think a fat tyre is a bit of insurance against smashing into a pothole, drain cover etc. with a load of weight more or less directly on top of the wheel.

I wanted a completely matching pair of rims and gave up as the only options I found was Sun Rhyno Lite (36h only front),or Velocity Dyad or Cliffhanger, which would have been hideously expensive as BLB are the ‘distributor’ and charge you the shipping on top...

That’ll do the job (that bike looks rad btw). Can do some trimming if it won’t play nicely with the forks.

Where can I order from? My google skills are failing me.

Which mudguard will work for a 2.15 tyre on an Omnium fork? Currently have this thing installed to stop the brake hose rubbing on the tyre when turning. I assume the front wheel is going to spray water directly at my feet when it rains? (Friday).

Sram shifter and shimano brake lever don’t look too bad together + really comfortable:

I just built my Omnium with 32 / 11-28 (10 speed) and it seems fine for London. Traded off some low end for closer ratios because big jumps are quite unpleasant when carrying weight.

I would prob braze the bits for the FD though to keep options open. If I ever want to venture further afield I will have to add quite a lot of ugly things to enable +1 front cog.

Now it’s weighed down with more parts and many inner tubes the high gear is actually perfect.

I’m waiting on the rear guard to arrive and need to trim a small amount of length from both brake hoses then will take some good photos before it gets scratched to shit.
