SSSS - Single Speed Summer Sun. Wednesday July 27th.

Join the ride to admire the Vintage and Veteran cars at Chiddingstone castle. Families welcome to drive out and meet us at the castle. No charge for the day. Buy your own treats.

Depart 9.15am from Old Hayes village café, 56 Hayes Street, Bromley, BR2 7LD. Opposite old Hayes village hall.
Arrive 11am at Chiddingstone castle for tea and scones. Admire the cars.
    Depart 12.30pm from the castle
Arrive 2pm back at Old Hayes village café.

Trains depart from London to Hayes:
London Bridge at 08:04am, arrive Hayes at 08:41am.
London Charing Cross at 08.19, arrive Hayes at 08:58am.

Not only for single speed bikes and Retro bikes. Gear bikes welcome. BUT hey, give us a chance, choose two gears only for the day and join in.

41mile loop. 21 miles out to the castle. 20 miles return to the cafe. Route passes through the Tourist spots of Downe village and Charles Darwin’s house, Brasted - the antiques village, Ide Hill village, Bough Beech reservoir and its nature reserve to Chiddingstone castle, its grounds and fishing lake. On the return the route passes Four Elms Equestrian centre, Winston Churchill’s Chartwell house and then his statue on Westerham village green.

Depending on how many post their intention to ride, there could be a few groups, with pace of each group varying to suit all.

Arrived today. Pro version is top-drawer. The different open-weave materials on the arms and down the sides is first-class.

Pockets are in the right place for easy access without dislocating an arm. The grippers on the arms is something new. The name tag is just the right size. The colours are modern.

Will be a delight to wear.

Top marks to David and of course, one of our own, Tom 6pt from the Forum, for the outstanding design.

Many new friends will remember me from the famous single speed, Spiral Ride through all London Boroughs which we rode together on October 19th, 2013.

My 2014 challenge involves cycling the whole of Le Tour de France route for Charity, but on my road bike this time.

All monies raised go to The William Wates Memorial Trust which is a small Charity that makes a real difference to disadvantaged youth; keeping them away from a life of gangs, violence and crime in order to fulfill their potential through education, art and sports.

The tour takes place over the same number of days as the professionals but riding one week ahead of them. That's 3656km over 3 weeks and 21 stages before arriving on the Champs Elysees in Paris. Stage 1 starts on Saturday 28th June. Stage 21 finishes on Sunday 20th July 2014.

In 2010, the William Wates Memorial Trust devised this tour as their primary way of raising funds. Each year they have 30 places available for those who wish to ride the whole tour. There are also 150 places for those cycling a tour taster of 3 stages.

The cost of entry for the Tour is £3500 which I have paid to the organisers, Tour-de-force, to cover accommodation, food and transfers. In addition to this, I am attempting to raise at least £5000 for The William Wates Memorial Trust.

I would be honoured if the whole club could sign a brand new LFGSS jersey that I can wear for the tour. Having your name on my back will get me through the darkest hours ahead.

From April, please visit On Your Bike at London Bridge where my jersey and special pen will be waiting for your signature. Surely the new jerseys will be available by then?

It would help with fundraising if you could tell others, in the circles you mix, about my feat.

Thank you for your caring donation. I will try not to let you down.

Thanks guys for the camaraderie during this mammoth day. I left home at 6.20am and returned at 12.20am after cycling 145 miles.

Well done Earthloop on the momentous planning of the ride. Who'd have thought we would be chucking our bikes over a fence and riding through playing fields to get to our 2nd stop. No wonder some got lost and then found us again at our 3rd stop.

The tranquil crossing on the Mayor of London was such a contrast of what was to come when it was lighting up time. London at night was a real buzz with pubs spilling over onto the road and cheering us on.

There were so many learned characters in the club who all seemed to know where we were at any given time. Chapeau to you all.

    Thank you for the day.

Yes, please. One small bag with change of lights and fluor jacket for cycling home.

Sidcup Place pub has agreed to open at 7.15am to prepare us for our 7.30am depart.

The pub is offering hot baps filled with either fried egg, sausage or bacon @ £1.99 each. Costa tea @ £1.79 each. Costa coffee @ £2.50 each.

Please add to this list so I can book numbers. I will order and pay for a few extra anyway to cater for late arrivals who can grab something before the off. We will be burning around 7500 calories on the day, so something to start won't go amiss.

Order will go to pub this Friday 18th at 3pm. Please be on the list by then or come Saturday's start, it's only the ones below who will be tucking in.

    Hughbido+coffee+egg
