I use this Tektro hose cutter and barb tool, there's the 3mm bolt to tighten down on the hose before you push the barb down https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/296728638467
Using a box cutter and Shimano's yellow blocks works fine too.
Hose I'll stick to Shimano, BH90 is the performance one.

I look very different to how I look in my previous passport photo but I do have some prior physical copies which I could digitalise.

Cost-Benefit analysis, if you wanna tinker about, Tektro sells refresher kits for their levers blade and pivot which cost just as much as a full lever, I concur it looks close enough to work but you'll never know until you try.
