Very sadly it would seem that the gentleman hit by a coach last week has died. His name was Francis Golding, he was a prominent planner and architect, and twitter is full of condolences from people who would know him and know this information to be correct.
Rest in peace, Mr Golding.
Can a mod change the title of this thread please?

I stopped at the site about 9.45 this evening. The coach and bike were still in situ, with the riders panniers and their contents all over the road. It was sobering to see and I hope the rider makes a swift recovery.
It looked to me as if the bike was under the front, rather than the side, of the coach and I don't think if us useful to speculate here as to whose actions led to what.

BBC journalist has just confirmed:
@BBCTomEdwards
Met confirm a cyclist has died at Mile End Road on CS2 after collison with HGV. Met were called at 1638
November 5, 2013Also reports on twitter to me of bike, police cordon and tipper truck.
Very, very sad and all too predictable. My thoughts go out to the deceased rider's family and friends.

This is very sad, and the 2nd death around Aldgate this summer following the death of a Boris Biker under a lorry there earlier this year which kicked off the space4cycling protests.
Thoughts and condolences are very much with this lady's family and friends, especially as their pain has been somewhat protracted with her death coming so long after the collision.
Those expressing surprise about being quoted in the Standard; don't be. Over the years the Rider Down threads have often been quoted in the press after a death - be aware of it and be careful of what you write.

It's this Sunday (2013!) and the weather is looking good, touch wood.
As to the phantom velodrome, read the post, come on the ride and find out for yourself.
(Incidentally there's LOADS of disused tracks around London, when doing the research for this ride I was surprised how many have just disappeared over the years. Would have been so easy for Herne Hill to go the same way)
