ASG of course, partials are for girls.

I don't squat anymore, that was last year at about 90kg. I only ever reached 120kg on the bench. Having done over 5 years in gyms and trying body weight and some gymnastic training techniques I would only utilize olympic lifts for power training.

When I was squating 160kgs I couldn't do a single pistol/one legged squat. Now I can bang and double figures.....and of course my balance is much better also.

there was a thread on Shane Perkins the other day. I got bigger legs than him :)

Come winter I might do a months membership at a gym. Don't worry I will record it this time. When people see my legs they usually start believing ;)

I start believing when I see someone actually lift their stated PB's in strict form :-) If that strength doesn't tranfer to functional athletic ability though then, for cyclists, its a bit pointless. I'm with you on pistol squats though, I can't squat heavy due to injuries so its pistols for me too. I've got skinnier than Bradley Wiggins though.

@ nailbrush - "180kg squat (full depth)" parallel or atg? At what bodyweight? thats impressive! Chris Hoys 1rep max is apparently around 227.5 to parallel at 92kg. Not that I dont believe you or anything but on weightlifting forums everyone can bench 2xbodyweight with a strict 1 second pause until asked for proof. Pics or it didn't happen :-)

Yup, or anything else you fancy. Having a high calorie day when dieting stops your body thinking its starving and slowing your metabolism down to survive. I have a cheat day once a week, had over 6000kcal yesterday :-) Pizza and Cornetto Enigmas ftw!

Eat & train like a super heavyweight powerlifter and then get liposuction.

    Best way to do it.

If you want to look like a powerlifter with saggy skin on yer gut! Mmmmm, hot!! :-)

Exercising a muscle makes it bigger and stronger, it doesn't burn fat from that specific area (unfortunately). So sit ups/crunches/floor wipers etc will make your abs bigger and stronger under the beer gut but not give you "6 seconds ripped abs or your money back". I'm determined to see my abs before March - they're there somewhere the fuckers!

Well I can't walk properly, can't walk fast, can't do any sports. That should be enough shouldn't it? If the NHS don't offer treatment then I'll have to go private and get the woman's insurance to pay.

You'd think so wouldn't you! If you've got an MRI booked then at least they're taking it seriously, when you've got the results you can weigh up the options. If you definately want surgery work out your arguments in advance (can't work, can't drive, chronic pain, depressed etc).

Recovering from surgery is when the slow recovery begins tho. 9 months after surgery its my meniscus rather than the ACL that causes most bother if I walk too much or lift heavy in the gym.

Good news is, cycling was the least painful exercise to do. I was back on my bike - gently! - 6weeks after surgery.

I had a complete tear of my right acl and a bucket handle tear of right medial meniscus last july, went to A&E the next morning after as I had massive swelling and couldn't walk. Saw a physio and had an xray that day, a surgeon for the xray results couple of weeks later.

Had an MRI in August which confirmed that it was a complete tear, surgery in November - ACl re-construction taken from my hamstring and removal of the torn bit of meniscus so around a 4 month wait from injury to surgery.

I was having physio around every fornight until a couple of months ago and I have to say they were great, my main physiotherapist had undergone the same surgery herself and was a runner so pot luck i guess.

My knee isn't fully revovered yet but is certainly better than before surgery, i suppose theres a point where there really is no other choice than removal regardless of the arthiritis risk.
To be honest the NHS are only going to be keen do something if you can't perform regular day to day tasks or the injury affects your job (mine did), so if you decide on getting cut up you might have to stress that it's ruining your life to get them to something!

    @ DFP
“For the skinny-fat guy with little muscle, it is even more essential to gain a lot of bodyweight as it will increase muscle (strength to weight ratio). The skinny-fat guy will never be very strong at a low bodyweight as they have a poor muscle perecentage. This has little to do with artificially imposed somatype generalisations but more to do with genetics & hormones. At higher weights the gap is closed between these types of traits/people. But still somatypes are pretty useless.”
Genetics and hormones are what determines which one or more of the somatypes you lean towards. We are made up of the three extreme body types so we are all part endomorph, part mesomorph and part ectomorph. Using a score of one to seven, we can grade our bodies on each of the extreme body types
What you called a “skinny fat guy with little muscle” can be described as a bodytype 417 i.e. 4 (medium endomorphy); 1 (Low mesomorphy); 7 (High ectomorphy). We’re both using generalisations of body type but different terms. That’s all somatyping is, a way of comparing body types.
**“There is no such thing as a hard-gainer. The hard gainer just doesnt eat enough” **
As far as hard gainers go I strongly disagree!!!! J May I recommend you read Beyond Brawn by Stuart McRobert? Think that it’s still available to download for free, he has a lot to say on the subject of drug free strength training, hard gainers, abbreviated training plans etc. It’s bloody good.

[QUOTE=Damaged;1496160]So much bullshit and misinformation around "losing weight".

[*]Almost every single human on the planet can only lose 1-2lbs of fat a week - no exceptions. Anything else is water or muscle or stomach contents.

Not True. There are many people running so low on bodyfat, that 1-2lbs in a week would be impossible and may cause serious health problems.
Err.. that's what I said? I'm certainly not recommending an adult with e.g. 5% bodyfat to lose any more bodyfat or anyone to lose bodyfat unless they want to. It's general advice for normal people and pretty much universally accepted.

    [*]There are no shortcuts.

Lipsuction, Diet Pills, parasitic worms, bulimia, Injecting Hormones or Heroin.

All of those won't work in the long term without a corresponding change in diet and physical activity. Perhaps i should have said that there are no shortcuts that work in the longrun. Jeez! :-)

[*]Everyone has a genetic predisposition to being an ectomorph, endomorph or mesomorph.

Just plain nonsense, the "morph" types are vast generalisations which can be meaningless for many people.

The morph types ARE vast generalisations and most people are a combination of more than one. It can be useful to know where you fall so as to structure a relevant training and diet plan. If you are an ectomorph or "hard gainer" aimong to gain muscle mass your diet and training plan would be totaly different to that of an individual who fits the mesomorph type. E.g. as an ectomorph, no matter what I do I will never have a powerlifters physique.

[*]Fat cannot turn into muscle, muscle cannot turn into fat.

True, but energy from excess fat can help build muscle. And also muscle can be broken down by body to use as fuel.

First part, not sure what you mean. Excess Kcal ingested from fat can be converted to muscle but you can't turn existing bodyfat into muscle. It's like turning base metals into gold.
Second bit; true. Particularly if you "crash" diet.

[*]Excess carbs do not get stored as fat - excess Kcal get stored as fat

What hippy said. Furthermore, Carbs can elevate insulin which is a powerful weight gaining agent.

[*]If you lift weights you need a lot of high quality Kcal, probably more than you realise, mostly from protein (containing all essential amino acids i.e. animal protein) to fuel muscle growth.

Hahahaha!!! Getting your calories from protein would be ridiculously innefficient, expensive and possibly lead to health problems as we all need essential fatty acids to survive. Essential amino acids do not need to come from animal protein (although it is favourable). If it did all the vegans in the world would be dead.

I didn't say getting your calories from protein. I said getting high quality (meaning skimmed milk, egg whites, lean white meats etc) MOSTLY from protein. Vegetable proteins don't contain all 8 essential amino acids individually so to get all of them in your diet you would have to combine different non animal products. It's really not a concern for most people, if your aim is growing muscle tissue (as i origionally said "If you lift weights", animal protein makes life much easier.

Wasn't expecting to have to think so much!

I hope vegans dont die. xx
