Sleeping in your riding socks is a great idea.

Similarly, I always keep my gloves under my armpits to keep them warm when I stop at cafes.

This kinda makes sense but I guess how long you intend to ride makes a difference. I don’t think I would be comfortable during 10 hour rides in winter with arm warmers on, for example. I’d much prefer a LS jersey.

I’ve almost reached my limit of the amount of clothing I can be bothered to put on for a ride around Edinburgh in winter. This is incredibly boring but here goes; deep winter socks, Sidi Dominators, cargo bibs, deep winter tights, LS base layer, winter jersey, softshell jacket, merino hat, deep winter gloves. The only thing I can really do to increase my warmth is use a deep winter hat, winter base layer, glove liners and hardshell jacket. And clear lens sunglasses, they genuinely help a lot.

If I get wet at this time of year, then I consider myself fucked and I’ll sack off the ride. There’s no coming back from the shivers in sub-zero temps no matter what you’re wearing.

Question about the above UK time frames: can I sub a longer ride for a shorter one? For example completing two 600's between 9th April and 24th June.

Thanks, will keep an eye out for those. Not sure how I feel about the Auld Alliance after the last one with it's 9PM start totally ruined me, but if needs must!

Interesting to see that people go for course records during audax in different parts of the world. I've noticed quite a few people completing audaxes in America with a big emphasis of how quickly they completed them.

Out of interest, how does it work with you having completed your PBP qualifiers out of the set time frames? I was under the impression you had to complete the qualifying rides in the following timeframes but maybe I've got it completely wrong or these are just the UK/Europe dates?

    • 200k: Sat 7 Jan - Sun 30 Apr
    • 300k: Sat 11 Mar - Sun 21 May
    • 400k: Sun 9 Apr - Sat 10 Jun
    • 600k: Sat 6 May - Sat 24 June

EDIT: Just checked the Audax UK website and these dates are for the UK only. Makes sense.

Thanks! Mines not arrived yet so interesting to see how they've chopped it up (which I'm fully happy for them to do). I can't remember if I posted a link or not, but the full version with loads of photos can be found here.

Perhaps not what you’re looking for but maybe something to consider; an exposure under the saddle with the saddle rail mount? It’s what I’ve been using and it’s fits very nicely on the Brompton saddle.

Not even that elegant. I shoved my phone in my mouth and took a video.

Rapha Deep Winter gloves for me. Busted mine out for the first time this year and they worked perfectly during a five hour ride this morning in the Scottish snow.

My girlfriend has different overshoes from Galibier and they seem well made and she is happy with them.

Be careful with the ones you posted the link to if you have nice cranks and you don’t want them scuffed as that’s exactly what that rubbery toe bit will do.

As much as I love Enve stuff, that stem always looks naff with regular spacers.
