I had Hiscox for home and contents as they covered high value bikes comprehensively. I used them twice for roof work (none of their appointed contractors were good) and their claims were no better and no worse than another company. In the end I halved my Hiscox premiums near enough as they had gone up consistently and again, refused to negotiate on renewal. I think they play on the 'high net worth' individual and customer service reputation and for paying out and yet they seemed to be not dissimilar to any other except you paid higher premiums.

Bollocks to the stigma @Stonehedge and anyway you're in the woods, who cares/sees/wins??. Mines got a huge pocket along the back for stuffing the trout in (euph) - or holds a map, sandwiches, rubbish

Next @kl you'll be moaning about them coming round 'ere with their GTI's and their funny accents....What @danstuff said. They're cross-class/club membership jackets. I think I'm right in saying the Bedale and the Beaufort are still made in the UK. I bought one a few years ago, a Beaufort I think, and it was and is better than my expectations. At £50 in the classifieds, a decent Bedale is a great jacket to buy

@starfish&coffee P'raps a couple of the characters were spot-on and indeed as a reflection of a country there is plenty in this isle of ours that feels pretty ugly, what I couldn't take was the barely hidden smugness of the two of them. I barely watched if for those reasons but the show being lauded reminded me of how the guy who came up with the FCUK logo/acronym for French Connection was hailed as some sort of advert/marketing genius rather than a hustler/purveyor of what Martin Amis had down in a pithy phrase as just another example of the 'obscenification of everyday life' or something like that. Interesting how the Fast Show is still funny, apposite and will last.

You'd need to add James Baldwin as a major American writer to the above list of writings and likewise the autobiography of Malcolm X as told to Alex Hailey
