If you're going to TT on the Peugeot, how you fit on the bike trumps aesthetics. With that in mind, I'd ditch the quill stem for a quill to ahead stem convertor. You'll have much more scope for adjustment - and less flex. Good luck.
Thanks for your reply, Pete. I've got everything from 49t to 57t already, so a 55 is of no use, I'm afraid. I'd like a 58 or larger (without breaking the bank!) Cheers anyway!

3/32" preferred but 1/8" also considered. Anything with 58 teeth or more.
