  cheers, was straight on to the police. Since I moved here I've been using the Langster instead of my Croix de Fer, as a form of insurance* against this happening. And I'm moving out in a couple of weeks anyway.

  *backed up by actual insurance.

  And just south from where that happened, I've just lost my Langster to a gang of youths. Didn't bother letting them go through the charade of pretending to be tooled up, I was a minute from home and figured the bike was an easier loss than phone/wallet etc. Stay safe out there!

  Does anyone know if the Met always use Bike Register for these? I had my Croix de Fer stamped outside Finsbury Park station a while ago, and am sure I registered it all online, but there's nothing on bikeregister.com

  Are there any other databases I could check, or a way of checking the number that's stamped on the frame?

  Does this one have eyelets for racks and mudguards? I used to have the red steel Langster which didn't, made it less useful for commuting than I liked.

  Descending Crouch Hill at a nice pace, Transit ahead of me is turning right, filter down his left-hand side, Corsa appears from nowhere, carries on appearing from nowhere, my first reaction is "wow, that hurt a lot less than I expected", second reaction "oh shit, I'm actually still going and heading straight for the kerb". Was completely calm in talking to the driver, but I'm now shaking at my desk, drinking sugary tea and trying to tell myself that it really wasn't my fault but I should probably be more careful when filtering.
