In a pinch I used something like this I had in the garage to hold my bag off the back wheel: [https://www.amazon.co.uk/RIO-Direct-Tensioning-Adjustable-Motorcycle/dp/B08FJ161RL/) - it actually worked pretty well and was quite light. I think the one in the link is bad quality, but there are lots of others if you search 'tie-down straps'

I've got fed up with my Carradice Super-C saddlepack because the straps on the saddle don't stay tight enough and it doesn't fit in the space.
But, I really like the zipped/mesh side pockets for keeping little bits in. I've looked at various options to replace it, but can't see any that have similar easy access. Does anyone know of any?

@LeBlaireau thread hijack slightly, but do you have any of your routes for St Malo - Rennes available somewhere? I'm doing a similar route (St Malo to near Pipriac) in July, and I've had a hard time telling which D roads are nice to cycle on vs. some which look like they'd be very busy
My current route looks a bit like https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38835193
It depends a bit on the line, but the mainline trains from Norwich - London have space for six bikes (I've seen 8 before) in the carriage (which is the same as they always claimed for the old trains, although obviously you could physically fit more). It's one of the better bike setups I've seen in the new trains that have come out in the last few years as you don't have to hang them up.
