  It appears the first 27.2mm post I tried is ever-so-slightly oversized. Tried a few others and no problem. Mind you this is after I bought three different seatposts sized <27.2... Well, glad that's sorted... . :|

  Progress.
  Carbon forks it is - for now.
  Final built will have full silver bits - stem / seat post / steerer.
  Seat post is giving me a bit of a headache; seems 27.0 rather than 27.2 is the correct size? will sort this out. Likely by trial and error.
  the rims, for now, are silver aksiums. Stem will be updated to 120mm -17 in silver.

  It's these by Rose Bikes in black. Same in silver are what's on the CAAD 4 now (not pictured), plus I have a couple on the way for the Gazelle. Really like them (plus they're €4!!!).
