Sorry, I meant the station staff for the specific operator. In this case Northern. Who won't reserve a slot and only allow 2 bikes on so if I'm not lucky I'm screwed.

Havent posted on here in ages. Ive been walking to work mostly but recently decided to change jobs and thought id try getting the train to the local station and cycling the 6 or so miles in every day. It works out at a similar cost as the tank of petrol i'd use and I'd hopefully lose a bit of weight. Not to mention its supposed to be good for the environment not driving.
But in the name of all that is holy, booking a normal sized bike on a train is a pain in the bum.
I can reserve a slot from durham to newcastle. But then i change trains and the onward doesnt reserve, instead i have to ask station staff. This is utterly useless. What am i meant to do if they say no? Lock up the bike and then walk 6 miles to work from the second station. Im going to work and cant roll that dice.
Honestly this train infrastructure is useless with regards to bikes.

I also massively appreciated the "well a brompton can just be taken on", thats nice call center bod. I'll just pull 1k out my bum and have the bike delivered.

Im pottering about in a pair of black nikes, a gift from my partner, as i hate the whole neon coloured shoes thing. Ive no idea what model they actually are, just black trainers with the swoosh on the side. My son hates them, at 18, as my uncoolness reflects on him apparently. Good job i dont wear my DC Flash converse very often or he'd disown me for good.

    This, this is it.

What i hate is the fact that in a few years when this has stopped making page one of the papers. The government, doesnt matter which party, will quietly cut more funding and ham string more services until people are forced to an american style health system.

I work on equipment with small parts and tiny screws. Easy to spot on my black bench, not so much on the grey/blue lino the entire floor is covered in. Guess where the bits always fall..
I moved a cabinet a few weeks ago and there was enough small screws to restock our spares cabinet.

first cycle commute in an age. Roads quiet, the birdsong broken only by my wheezing.
8/10 will cycle again once i catch my breath.

A less than triumphant return to running this week. Took my 8 (ish) yr old niece with my GF and her son (12 yrs) to parkrun. GF and son managed the whole course in 38 mins which is good for his first parkrun. I however stayed with the niece who ran about 10 feet then had a stitch and walked the rest in sullen silence. No amount of chatting or joking would elicit more than one word responses. We cut out about a mile of the course and took an hour to finish.

So my running starts new years day at the parkrun instead.
