  • As no one wanted to do the Waifs and Strays XVI ride on Christmas Day, I would like to give LFGSS members another opportunity to do a group ride over the Christmas period.

We meet at Cutty Sark Gardens at 10am on Saturday 31st December 2022 for a relatively flat group ride to Erith.

Details are here http://cyclistsinsouthwark.org.uk/node/22, but bookings cannot be taken on this website is it is only an HTTP one and not secure enough to hold people's email addresses.

  • As this year's New Year's Day ride slot has already been taken by the London Clarion Cycle Club, to avoid clashing with them, we will be running our New Year's Day Ride on New Year's Eve instead. This means the ride can take place on a Saturday, which is the most popular day for people to do social rides.

  • People have been asking about whether the New Year's Eve Ride to Erith will go ahead, given that rain is forecast. It will go ahead, but if the weather turns out to be very bad, we can always go to Boulangerie Jade in Woolwich and then turn back.

  • As this year's New Year's Day ride slot has already been taken by the London Clarion Cycle Club,

Bugger, better shelve my plans to ride on New Year’s Day.

I’m planning a commute to/from work on the 3rd, is that alright or is anyone else planning on riding their bike that day?

  • People have been asking

    What peoples are those then

  • People have been asking about whether the New Year's Eve Ride to Erith will go ahead

    of course they have

  • Sorry, but there's already a ride organised for the 31st. Please reschedule for the 30th.

  • Literally no-one!

If there is no public liability insurance, I'm out

  • Raise it with the board

  • Lol, I have just ridden there 25 times for the Festive 500

  • I checked Southwark Cyclists website and there’s no mention so I guess it’s been cancelled

  • This is a Cutty Sark ride. Have you checked the Greenwich Cyclists website? http://greenwichcyclists.org.uk/rides

  • I couldn’t make 30th. How about 2nd? Surely all those people asking would be happy with that date ;)

  • Nothing in the rides tab on there?
Nothing in the news tab since August

  • Nothing in the campaigns tab since 2014

  • There were four of us on today's ride to Erith, despite the rain. Greenwich is a great place to cycle in, even when it rains and regardless of which borough people live in. I can think of dozens of nice social rides that could be put on the Greenwich Cyclists website, but someone needs to get an HTTPS certificate for it, as it is currently insecure: http://www.greenwichcyclists.org.uk/

What a very odd thing to say. London Clarion have been holding New Year's Day rides for years. There is not a "slot". London Clarion arranges rides for its members. If they want to ride they do. There are dozens of other cycling clubs all over London many of whom rode on New Year's day.

  • To the best of my knowledge over the past 8 years, there are many cycling clubs in London that have run New Year’s Day rides: London Clarion Cycle Club, Greenwich Cyclists, Bromley Cyclists, Lewisham Cyclists and Cyclists in Southwark. There only needs to be one club organising New Year’s Day rides, not five.

  • Because it’s not like you can go on two of them on the same day.

Fuck it, I’m onboard. Everyone on one ride, one day, no need for anyone to do anymore rides for the rest of 2023.

  • Why?

    Would rep

  • Plurality & choice bad...

  • What if I didn’t want to go to Erith?
I mean, I know that’s hard to comprehend.
The dog and bell crew look like the ultimate evolution of the “60km in Kent plus bar bag crew”, so I’m pretty sure we’d all get along.

  • When bus services were first introduced in London, operators picked off customers from their rivals by timing services to be just a few minutes before their competitors. That’s why TfL now regulate bus services. You can’t just have unfettered completion between transport operators.
