Bought one of these for wheels firmly on the ground local pump track use. Will be running it Single Speed, mostly from my spares but bars & stem were donated by a neighbour when I told him my build plan, and the ztto headset the only one I could source at a price reflecting the project.
Fork = Reba Race, Hope seatclamp, Hollowtech BB ready for old SLX crank.
I have an old richey seat post that fits for holding slammed saddle, most likely use a charge spoon. On-one chain tensioner ready to go on too.
I will need to source a rear brake, reckon avid bb7 best bet as I still have a few sets of compatible pads knocking about unopened. This would double project spend and push it into 3 figures.
I was always tempted by these frames. Looks ace.
yeah with some 26" wheels from the Superstar Sale you could do a bargain build.
One step closer... NOS ODI Ruffian, Ison Distro promo by look of it. Fiver.
Tidied up the old slx 9sp triple too, will be running it with that for now 1x with 32t upfront, assuming I can get chainline sorted.
Any recommendations for a niceish hollowtech 1x upgrade to consider?
Might have a spare BB7 kicking around. Will try and remember to have a look tomorrow morning.
That would be brilliant if so, thanks. Cash money or beer available.
A week late, but would a ratty set of xt hydros work? May need bleeding, but might be knackered. I'm never going to bother doing anything with them.
That'd be ace to give them a try. I can swing by after work tomorrow, Weds, or Fri most likely (edit: I'll take it to WhatsApp)
I think it is finished. Rainy so no test pedal on path even. Not great pics, but gives the idea.
That looks like it's a blast to ride
I've still not ridden this as I've not been well enough for long enough.
I have replaced the chainring with a blue raceface one. It is still 32t but reading around 30t might be better for pump track ratio so I have one of those put aside just incase also.
I swapped the cranks & bb over to fit some old bombshell velocity so the slx can go back on my inbred for another rebuild.
I have some blue dmr deathgrips too, which colour coordinate more and also have some blue rotor bolts to fit as a finishing touch.
Then, maybe I'll ride it before the winter is out.
Depending what's on the rear (hard to see but it looks between a 16-18T) you don't want a 30T up front, you shouldn't really be pedalling once you are going. Always nicer to do a quick turn on a higher gear between rhythm sections as too low a gear spinning can throw you off balance or risk slipping a pedal IMO.
I would also say drop a link or two out that chain so you get a bit more wrap around the rear sprocket. I don't want you to have a skip just as you are cranking.
Great advice, thanks. It's a 16 at the back iirc. Skip free preferred so thanks again I'll shorten chain.
