Could anyone link to research/article that shows avg cost of heating your house while WFH 8 hours a day?
I know there are many variable in that question, but hoping to compare to a coworking hot desk option at £125/month.

Mains gas is currently approx 11.35p per Kwh
If you have a 24 kW boiler that means £2.76 per hour to run it on mains gas, so work out how many hrs extra you might put your heating on.

May as well get an oil rad/heater?
Bar heater would also do the job.

Once the ch is up to temp the boiler will be off and circulating the heated water. No idea what ratio of burn time to heating time you would get.
Also unless you are open plan I would run a small fan heater in the office space for about 3kw as a more cost effective heating setup than a 24kw boiler

I've been watching Agent Carter with the kids, someone wears something like this and dies.

It overheats, locks up, and then he runs out the window before exploding above the street.
TBH some days that might be a nice option to have. -

why not smart TRV’s set to ‘work room only 9-6pm’ ?
assuming you have wet heating system. -
• #389
I don't have smart valves.

I ASKED THIS QUESTION 2 months ago.
My fucking memory is clearly useless. -
• #391
It could be the cold. Have you tried heating the room?
-
• #392
But what with?
I hear oil rads might be good? -
• #393
Maybe take some time out to think about it. Sit down, watch a film with the kids

• #394
well if you have a gas boiler you are probably better off getting smart TRV's, making further savings on your gas bill and have a warm work room while the rest of the house is empty.
heating a room with electricity is more than twice the cost of gas. -

I heat rooms with the rage of my own inadequacy.
And a bunch of Tado TRVs.

Our boiler has been behaving a bit "iffy" over the last few days, so yesterday I picked up a diaphragm that usually tends to be the culprit. It's a twenty year old Glowworm combi. It didn't start again this morning when the thermostat demanded heat, so I figured I'd better get my hands dirty and change the diaphragm. After isolating power and figuring out which bits to stop flow on, I managed to get it changed, but it didn't solve the less than reliable starting, so I've spent a good portion of the day learning how to fully service it from a pdf version of the manual. Success! We have a boiler now working perfectly again, which made me feel very satisfied.

I know this is the right answer.

But the intricacies of the pipe work in this house make me wonder “how the fuck will that work then”

We have an Ebac dehumidifier, not sure which one to be honest, but it’s not missed a beat in 4 years. Just turn it on to smart and it does what ever it does. They have a 5 year warranty as well.
