Jazz vinyls

Posted on
  • All,

Just putting the feelers out at the moment.

Having lost my father in December, I have reluctantly decided to sell his vinyl records. He was a big jazz fan so I have a good few to sell. Some are rare, others not so much.

Question is, is it worth me listing them on here? Is there enough interest in this particular genre of music to justify listing them? Just looking for opinions.

  • Forum is a broad church and I’m sure you’ll find buyers for some of it on here. Alongside posting up a classifieds, you should post in this thread as well

But you’ll probably want to ask what you want to get out of the records, the most money possible, getting them into the hands of people that appreciate them or just getting rid of them. Figuring that out will determine where you want to offer/sell them.

Like I said there’s enough jazz bods on here who will be happy to take the vinyl off your hands, it may take longer then you’d like if you’re looking to sell them all on here.

  • sorry for your loss julian. I'd potentially be interested, if you had a list to browse through :)

  • oh yeah as @sodha said, a list of what you have would be good to see what interest there would be for what your father's collection consisted of.

  • Hello @Julian_Stock,
I've just zapped you a message about this.

  • I had the same thing a few years ago, sold some on here, and most of the rest to Flashback record shops, one in bethnal green, and the other in Islington.

It helped having added them all to a discogs catalogue so I had an idea of their value.

    Sorry for your loss, Julian

  • All,

Thanks for your responses. I'll respond to PM's.

Perhaps I'll list them and see what happens.

    This is worth doing

  • Sorry for your loss.

I'd be keen to see a list if that was at all possible.

  • Horrible news about your dad, Julian. Sorry to hear that.

Would be keen to see a list too

  • Condolences Julian.

I'd be interested in a list as and when available.

  • Hi Julian, my condolences - I know losing a parent is super hard, tough time.

Jazz bod here and would love to see the list as and when.

  • All,

I have attached a list below of jazz vinyls below. Offers invited.

Whilst I don't live in London, I will be returning to the office at Stratford in a couple of weeks so would be willing to meet within reason to keep costs down. Otherwise, records will be sent by 1st class post (secured in cardboard) for £3.85 or £4.85 if you want to sign for it.

Please PM if you need photos or any other information.

  • Hi Julian

Thanks for posting. Without label and condition info it's not really possible to suggest a fair value. If you register with discogs you can find the specific release and get an idea of what a record might go for.

I appreciate that's quite a lot of effort so alternatively, there are a few titles in there I would offer £10 each for plus p&p.

Edit - having had a quick look at discogs, I think £5 - £6 might be nearer the mark, assuming good / very good condition re-issues.

  • I wasn’t quite sure which approach to take really. Do I spend all that time compiling every bit of information only to receive little or no interest or offer less information and await questions?

I thought I might wait to gauge interest and then answer any more specific questions anyone might have.

  • You can probably get them into a discogs list within an hour or so. Search by the catalog numbers on the record.

I think my dad's 200 odd took maybe two hours over a couple of days

  • If they have barcodes they can be scanned into discogs using their mobile app.

  • I've dropped you a PM

  • List updated.

  • Great to meet you Julian and many thanks for dropping the records round.

  • You too Charlie.

    All the best.

  • Playing Dave Brubeck now; sounds lush.

  • List updated.
