  • Don't be tempted to use meths or something - the soot is horrible to clean up

I've been using UK purple methylated spirits in a Trangia Mini stove for 17 years without problem.

The worst fuel I have used is blue ethanol in Greece, which is like it came impure straight from the refinery, but it is only about 80 cents for 1/4 litre. In that case I just needed to add a small amount of water to the fuel and sooting up was largely prevented.

    From the Trangia web site:
"To avoid soothing[sic], dilute the fuel with max. 15% water"
    Source: https://trangia.se/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Selecting-the-right-burner-for-the-Trangia-stove.pdf

  • Ah that's a good tip - will experiment with adding water in future once I've got through my bio stash!

  • Not sure I’d bother making porridge vs overnight oats - the cleanup would be such a massive ball ache?

Having done a load of camping in my teenage years (and little since) the guys with trangias always ate, and ate well. It just works.

That said I have a jetboil you’re welcome to but I’m in N8 and I think you have closer offers of the same

By overnight oats you mean a bircher? ie. cold soaked porridge? I guess the point of the porridge is that being warm it's a bit of a pick me up if the weather is shit (and it's Scotland so the weather is shit :))
