64cm Argos Audax Bike

Posted on
  • I bought this bike off of the cycling UK forum about a year or so ago. After a year of riding and trying to get it to fit I have come to accept that it's too big for me. Over that time I've replaced a number of parts, including all the cables, bottom bracket, rear mech and added mudguards 6 months ago.

It made a fantastic audax/winter road bike and because it's made with oversized tubing it's very stiff.

64cm Rynolds 725 Frame, adapted for disc brakes by Argos. One very small difficult to notice ding in the top tube. Some paint chips and small areas of superficial damage. Paint is otherwise lovely and has a glitter sparkle in the sun.
Deda big logo stem - 100mm
FSA omega compact drops - 42cm
Cane Creek Forty Headset - bearings replaced 6 months ago
Avid BB7 mechanical disc brakes with new pads and compressionless brake cabling (<6 months old)
    105 Triple shifters 10sp
    Deorde triple crankset
105 Front & rear mechs (rear mech brand new)
    Thomson in line post
mudguards - quite tight with 25c tyres but perfectly workable
Shimano wheels, very slight play in freehub
Brand new/recently replaced durano folding 25c tyres. It can fit 28c without guards.
    Recently replaced 10sp shimano chain
    Brand new bottom bracket
Pedals not included, happy to include a cheap specialised saddle if wished.

I'm also based in Bristol - 550£ collected. Geometry sheet attached below.

  • Might be an idea to remove the personal info..

  • Good idea - have done so!

  • wow thats @jammy sized

  • Yep it's pretty big, but not at all noodly or flexy because it's made with so much oversize tubing

  • I can't believe you don't @ me anymore :'(

  • A guy at work has a 6' 8" friend that's after something.
    Have forwarded this on

  • @Crop
This will fit your 6ft 8 mate really nicely. I’m 6ft 9 and have this bike with nearly identical geo also custom made by Argos and it is an absolute joy to ride.

  • Completely agree. I'm 6"1 and this is too large for me - I suspect it would fit someone 6"2 upwards

  • Had a look at the bike for a mate, sadly was a bit too big, but lovely and a good price!

  • Don’t want to body shame anyone but is a 42cm handlebar a bit narrow for a 64cm frame?

  • Had a bike fit at soigneur and was told 42 bars were my size and were very very common for tall folk. Afraid I can’t remember his reasoning though. Would be keen on this bike if was in the market.

  • very very common for tall folk

Cheers for the answer. I don’t doubt the bike is a proper, normal fit. Most people above 6’ 6” that I’ve met are pro athletes and overall big big dudes, hence my question.

  • I gather it also depends on if you spend a lot of time in or out of the saddle?

I gather if you spend more time off the saddle e.g when climbing, then wider bars are preferred e.g more pivot/leverage. More time sitting then narrower bars preferred apparently.

  • 500£ collected

  • Is this still available? I can pick it up Sunday if so.
