Thought this project might be of interest to some of you.
Like much of the UK, the North York Moors was a much nicer place for cyclists to be during the lockdowns. I also found myself with a bit more time on my hands, so I started working alongside a few others on a cycling zine that we hoped would celebrate the routes, roads and cyclists of the area.
We want to show others why it’s such a great place to ride a bike. It’d also be great if cycling could offer an alternative to grouse hunting as the main reason to visit…
So far, the response has been encouraging. Copies are being distributed for free within the moors, but we’re hoping to fund a second volume through a few sales. In case you’re interested, the mag includes:
• 6 route guides, 2 featuring gravel and 1 bikepacking route
• Interviews with Lizzie Deignan, Harry Tanfield and Clare Nattress
• A piece by Leeds based Black Cyclists Collective about representation in the sport
• Articles by authors Jack Thurston & Simon Warren on cycling in the area
• A photo essay about Gus Morton's Coast to Coast ride
• Essays on the area, its topography and its role as a climate sink
It’s all carbon offset and a quid from each sale is going toward the Bike Project, Rewilding Britain and Yorkshire Air Ambulance. We went on sale today and if you’re interested you can find out more at northriding.cc or @northriding.cc on insta.
Looks great - copy ordered!
Thanks so much, we'll get that out to you today. Would love to hear your feedback when it arrives!
I’ve just ordered as well, a bit of nostalgia as I’m originally from the Esk Valley.
This is very nice, will order
Cheers! Me too - originally from Sleights. So much good riding in the Esk Valley. Hope it reflects that and you enjoy it.
Class, thanks! Let me know any thoughts.
Looks good. The link to your website doesn't work btw.
Good spot, thanks!
One of my favourite parts of the world. Copy ordered and I look forward to reading it.
Nice one, thank you! Hope you enjoy it.
Arrived this morning, and looks great! Now just need to see if I can take the bike and arrange for a day pass the next time we go visit my OH's family in the Howardian Hills...
That's great to hear - cheers for the support! Hope the mag tempts to you to head east towards the Moors.
This looks rad, ordered!
that looks great! ordered + subbed + followed!
Nice one, will get that out to you today. Thank you and hope you enjoy it!
Can’t ask for more than that!! Really appreciate the support, thank you.
Received it today looks really good, the routes look really good as well.
I too grew up in Sleights, I left around 30 years ago though!
Have ordered, I’m from near Stokesley.
Don’t suspect Sleights has changed much in that time!
So pleased you like it, can highly recommend some of those lanes and bridleways.
Mint! Harry Tanfield’s 4 Valleys route goes your way I think. Hope you enjoy the mag!
This looks so great. Ordered.
I’m from nowhere near, but always good to have an excuse to visit!
mag arrived today, looking forward to giving it a thorough reading through on father's Day tomorrow. perfect excuse for sitting down and reading instead of doing stupid DIY jobs etc etc.
Really appreciate that, thanks. Hope it makes you want to ride up here!
Sounds like a much better way to spend the day. Hope you enjoy it - let me know if you’ve any thoughts!
