You mean you're closing the site ?
Is that a bit hasty?
There are 4 months grace to explore options -

https://www.ofcom.org.uk/online-safetycheck-how-to-comply/
In early 2025, we'll be launching a tool to help you check how to
comply with illegal content duties. The tool will be divided into four steps that follow Ofcom’s risk
assessment guidance. Following these steps will help you to comply
with the illegal content risk assessment duties, and the linked safety
duties and record-keeping and review duties. -

Yeah, so can we not run through their app and implement some documentation about how we're bike porn not kiddy porn and move on with our lives, free from Ofcom's bullshit?

If so, thanks for the ride.
It has been a very entertaining & helpful community.

Does anyone know how this (not Lfgss’s closure but the legal change) is going to affect mumsnet?
-
• #157
Good question James.
Couldn't we create lufgus within mumsnet if they're not closing.
Y'know like a cookoo

I just wanted to post in here to say thanks Dee (and everyone who contributes in here)
This space is / has been a serious part of my life since I moved to London a long time ago.
It hit me this morning how helpful this place has been and how integrated it is in my life. I'm sure there are other spaces out there that can provide all the stuff I contribute to / am part of (parenting, cryptic clues, cyclocross, moaning) but it's not the same.Thank you for the hard work that's gone on keeping this place.

Maybe this was covered but the online safety act - does it apply to business apps?
Because there's a fuckload of business systems that are used to "allow users to post content online or to interact with each other". I mean, is every company conducting business using Teams, WhatsApp, etc supposed to be implementing the controls that Ofcom are calling for?
Even if you exclude the chatty stuff, what about an invoice or expense system? Who's to say that lunch receipt isn't actually that reflecto-porn I meant to send to Dancing James?

Internal company communications things are exempt. I did wonder if we could set up a company and turn every user into an unpaid employee

Aren’t we a mutual aid support group? We help each other and encourage bickering, buying and bullshitting. Would this exempt us?

Larry Loophole, at your service.
Sigh... we're done, I've read it... let me go make a statement on the front page.
