Is it possible/wise/safe to fit larger 700c tyres (hybrid tyres perhaps) on to rims designed for road bike size tyres? Frame clearance isn't an issue as I have loads of room. Just wondering if a tyre such as a 700x32 or bigger will safely seat on the rim.
Look on this page towards the bottom for rim width, tyre combinations.
The table is rather conservative.
Thanks very much.
Good ol Sheldon (and John Allen).
Found this table by Maxxis yesterday when wondering if I could fit fat tyres to my 650b rims. 19mm hooked rims seem to offer the best range. The tables below are references for safe combinations, not optimal performance.
