Bigger 700c Tyres on Road Rims?

Posted on
  • Is it possible/wise/safe to fit larger 700c tyres (hybrid tyres perhaps) on to rims designed for road bike size tyres? Frame clearance isn't an issue as I have loads of room. Just wondering if a tyre such as a 700x32 or bigger will safely seat on the rim.
    Thanks

  • Look on this page towards the bottom for rim width, tyre combinations.

    The table is rather conservative.

  • Thanks very much.

  • Good ol Sheldon (and John Allen).

Found this table by Maxxis yesterday when wondering if I could fit fat tyres to my 650b rims. 19mm hooked rims seem to offer the best range. The tables below are references for safe combinations, not optimal performance.
