  • Very much looking forward to stage 5, round my neck of the woods, might have to have the day off work and go show my support.

  • It just says South Cheshire to Warrington. Bit vague isn’t it?

I’m not really sure where you’d route that to make it interesting unless you went east or west to find some hills. Maybe up through Tarporley and Delamere. It’s all a bit flat though.

What I really want to see one year is a long day in the Peaks with 4,500m of climbing.

  • Yeah, exact route to be announced, started in Congleton (where I live) in 2016, my guess is it'll be the flat side of South Cheshire, so probably start Nantwich way.
Would love to see em route it the hilly side, up over Killer Mile, over Biddulph Moor, across to Bosley, then take yer pick of ways to the Roaches (my choice would be Wincle/Gradbach route), then over to Brickworks or Cat n Fiddle/Blaze Hill, out through Bollington/Prestbury/Tatton Park...but that's all very unlikely.

  • I suspect we’ve discussed this before but I’m from Holmes Chapel. There’s a few from that neck of the woods on here.

Up onto Wildboarclough and through Macc Forest then up to Pym’s Chair past the chapel. It would be a proper spectacle.

  • It would, the footage would be amazing, Roaches and Macc Forest would make awesome backdrops.
Maybe we should approach them together, ask if we can plan the route?

  • What year did Stannard win at Tatton Park after going solo up the Cat and Fiddle?

Sadly the cost of fixing the roads to enable a race round here would be seven figures.

  • through Macc Forest then up to Pym’s Chair past the chapel

Would be amazing. I'd love to see helicopter footage of the peloton going up the Goyt Valley

  • Nah, let em ride what we ride, 32mm tyres, and a repair patch kit, they'll be alright.
Stannard won in 2016, was a great day, all the local school kids and (step)parents got to follow the pros through town at the start.

  • WVA has the Tour of Britain on his race calendar, as prep for the Worlds. Would be cool to see!

  • FFS organizers have bottled including the Kent Alps again!

  • Whoop whoop! Stage 5 starting Alderley Edge, and coming through Congleton (again), taking in Blacky Bank and Brickworks. I feel a day off work coming on.

  • No chilterns. Disappoint

  • Oh nice. Where after top of Brickworks?

Edit: looks like they’ll turn right and drop down into Macc.

A trio of ŠKODA King of the Mountains climbs follow skirting below the famous skyline of Bosley Cloud and into the Cheshire Peak District, with the main climb at Bottom-of-the-Oven, a 1.7km ascent (with an average gradient of 6.9%) to just shy of the famous Cat and Fiddle.

Macclesfied, Rainow, and Adlington will all welcome the race before a second intermediate sprint at Wilmslow. The route then heads through the town of Alderley Edge and the climb of the same name and on through Chelford, Knutsford and High Legh before entering Warrington via Appleton.

The race is basically through where I grew up and where I live now. Hopefully it means some bad roads will get resurfaced. Particularly past Shrigley Hall.

  • Almost what you called for then!

Still think they should let me map them a proper hard day in the Peaks though. No Pym Chair, no party.

  • Up above penmachno has my vote the gorge will look amazing across to the slate mines of blanae. Hopefully good weather as its a bit bleak around there.

  • And the realisation kicks in, I'm already off work that week, fantastic, no not really, I'll be in Suffolk. Just have to watch it on the telly.
