I also would like to do this. looks like the there's a ratchet in the top, but it's not clear how to remove it.

I removed the top Allen nut. Underneath it looks like you need to prise off the serated washer but I was t brave enough to try.
It's possible, someone on here has done it but when I messaged them they couldn't remember what they did.

Had another look at this the other day but got no further.
I can remove the Allen nut. To disassemble any further was a mystery. I assume the serated washer on the top is providing the clicks. I was tempted to gouge that out and see what happened. I tried prising the black plastic cover off wih no success.

I did one but I think it was on an M96 not an M90. Don't know how different they are.
Mine had one rotating layer with tiny ball bearings in, with another layer with holes in it, which together provide the indexing as the balls drop in to each position. I did need to take everything apart, but I did that, removed the tiny bearings and put everything else back in. Seems to work fine as a friction shifter now.

I saw someone on here say they had removed the guts from a sunrace m90 thimbshifter to convert to friction shifting.
Can't find the thread now.
Anyone done this? I've had a look at it but don't want to wreck it.
Thanks
