The F1 driver Fernando Alonso has been hit by a driver in or near Lugano, 'near his home'. More articles say 'near Lugano', with only one that I've seen saying 'on the streets of Lugano'. He has a broken jaw:
The date isn't given, but I've made an assumption that it was in February, as it was clearly recently.
Most of the articles I've seen are more about the implications of the crash than the crash itself, so not much info available yet.
I thought it was a significant crash to post in view of Alonso's past plans to start a pro road cycling team:
Of the articles I've seen, not one mentions this in connection with the crash.
An update from his team
After a few days of rest
I wouldn't want to be wearing a driving helmet with a broken jaw!
Yes, especially at the sort of forces that act on you if you're driving at F1 speeds.
