Missing Person Appeal: Martin Turner

Posted on
  • Hi guys, don’t know if this is the correct place for this, but we are extremely worried for one of our club members who went out for a ride at 8am yesterday from Totton (near Southampton), expected return at 12pm. Family and friends have not heard from him since.

We had originally started searching around the New Forest area as he had gone out on a CX bike, but CCTV have caught him coming off the Sandbank ferry in the direction of Purbecks at 11:30am yesterday.

We believe he was wearing a DHC jersey as per the attachment. His main club Nieuw Bos are out in the area looking for him.

If you’ve seen Martin or know of his whereabouts, please contact police on 101, quoting the reference 44200312217.

  • Rip. Very sad news

  • Only this tiny update on the BBC site:

The death of a cyclist whose body was found on the Dorset coast is not being treated as suspicious, police have said.

Martin Turner, 54, from Totton, Hampshire, was found dead near Old Harry Rocks on Sunday.

Mr Turner was last seen by his family leaving home to go on a bike ride at about 08:00 BST on Saturday.

Dorset Police said officers would be carrying out inquiries on behalf of the coroner.

Either an accidental death or suicide, then. Have you heard anything else that you can post, Acliff?

  • Very sad news for Martin, his family and friends. . It wasn’t looking great when they said they were using the coastguard helicopter to search for a cyclist.

  • Mentioned on the most recent GCN show.

Martin was well known in the South cycling community, Dan Lloyd, being a local, helped with the social media support and awareness.

Desperately sad outcome, He was on regular group rides very recently and I don’t think anyone had any idea that this could have happened.

    RIP Martin.
