• Will probably try and find a wider fork on ebay

@sbbohr might have some Thorn lying around?

  • good to know. Wtb tyres seem to have this feature, which is a bit of a squar-ish section rather than round. I have seen that with riddlers also.

  • To be fair the wiring on this could've been much more tidy, with or without the Secula

    Very true.

    Interesting to know.
If I could find tyres that are more likely to be 42mm height and width, then a lot of my tyre dreams might come true.

Question expecting tumbleweed; are there any tyres that are known for being taller and narrower than advertised?!

  • Mini project... couldn't quite face throwing the Dawes in the bin, so decided to saw my favourite part out, to keep as an ornament.

    I'm rather pleased with it:

  • Also: Stripped the Evans.
Dropping it off at Winston's tomorrow so there should be some progress soon.
Also also: ordered 1.9" Gravel Kings. Merlin had them on offer so hopefully they can be forced in. Thanks @jontea for measuring your tyres!

One last photo of the Evans before it dies:

  • Hopefully they'll work out ok, if not, buy shorter cranks.

  • I have some Panaracer 584x42s I’ve not mounted yet, you’re welcome to borrow them to try out dude.

But yeah just use shorter cranks. They’re great. Like your fixeh days.

  • Cheers @Skülly : )

Not sure if I need them yet... but it might be a good excuse to nip over and have a look at that amazing Pedersen!

And yes, shorter cranks... good option if all else fails.

  • Tyres arrived - stated as 48mm but really only 41mm tall x 46mm wide on these rims.

Obvs not as tall as I was hoping for but better than the 42s in terms of BB height.
Chainstays and mudguards won't allow anything wider anyway so they'll have to do.

  • At the moment the BB height is about 26cm (from the floor to the centre of the BB), and I would like it to be more like 27cm. So: taller tyres needed.

My BB height is 255mm on the custom one, with 165mm crank, it felt great cornering in the bike rather than on.

Low BB isn't really an issues, it take a while to get used to it.

  • Yeah, I saw that - you like it low!
Are you using yours off-road as well?

  • Progress: Winston has worked his magic on the rear chainstays.
It's pretty tight but it works.... and it's a lot cheaper than replacing the chainstays, which would be the next course of action.
