Fixing my Genesis CDF post bike crash.. Help pls

Posted on
  • Didn't see car coming the other direction and crashed right into it, face planted the bonet, split my chin and chipped a tooth... Needless to say I'll be wearing a helmet for life.
Hoping there's no real damage to my frame - looks like fork took most of the impact so looking to buy a black fork compatible with disk breaks. I THINK steerer 1 1/8 in but not sure as it's an old model (1992)
Any recommendations / suggestions welcome... Thank you!

  • Glad you're relatively ok. I'd have that frame very carefully checked too, as that looks like a bang big enough to crack/total at least one of those tubes.

Someone linked some on-sale forks at Merlin that might fit the bill very recently - maybe yesterday? Will try to find the link...

EDIT: Bugger - sold out. And tapered anyway.

the first Gensis CDF was released in 2009.

(My brain normally selectively filters out any helmet chat! Also I forgot how misogynistic that film was and found a clip with offending bit removed - edited)

  • Hmmm.. My frame says 1992 and Genesis customer service confirmed that was right...

  • CdF stickers on a different model, maybe?

  • I may be wrong but I believe IS Mount brakes were only introduced around 2000

  • disc brakes on road bikes were not a thing in 1992, back then you'd be lucky to fit 25mm tyres. Genesis as a company didn't start until 2001. Not that this really impacts you getting your bike fixed, I'd definitely take it to a mechanic to check the frame for wrinkles. The gusset under the down tube may have saved it but the energy had to go somewhere.

  • Thanks tho! Not a bad shout to check Merlin out...

  • Will definitely take it to my local shop. Thanks all!
Any more flags or recommends welcome...
Will be heartbroken if I've written off the frame :(

  • I was in a similar position after doing the same to mine (emergency stop into a car). Forks were totalled but I got the frame checked and it was fine. I went for a Surly Straggler fork cause I wanted more clearance and that’s worked well so far.

  • 1992 is the year the British Safety standard was introduced- BS6102-1:1992, not the bikes manufacture date.

  • Got you. Thanks!
