First ever single speed project for me, I guess this build has probably been done many times before but I'd appreciate any help that you can offer!
Picked this up only a couple of days ago after being on the hunt for either a Tricross (135mm spaced), Singlecross or CaadX
Already ordered - SRAM Force 1 Crankset (GXP / 42T)
Still trying to decide on reasonable priced carbon post and bars.
The headset bearings are shot so I'll be diving back through the forums to read the advice about swapping that out for the Cane Creek IS one - can't remember who did it here recently. Hopefully it's fairly simple!
I didn't angle the bars or levers, taken this pic 'as is' from the seller.
Forgot to line up the front wheel valve for picture too...
Nice find. Bear in mind the TRP RRL are not V-brake compatible as the DROP-V are. Cane Creek are just re-branded tektro though - so hardly 'better' than your current levers
Thanks @D_Mars, I missed that in the build research, shame as those TRPs look nice. I didn’t realise the RL520 are re-brands Of Cane Creek either.
These bikes are great, sure you'll have a lot of fun on this! TRP CX 8.4s are a solid choice, be interested to hear what others think of the RR 511 rims as I'm looking to build an SSCX wheel set at the minute too.
Wouldn't bother with aluminium cogs personally, they tend to wear very quickly in my experience (although I've not tried the ones you've mentioned). I'd go steel and either Chris King or Wolf Tooth stainless steel if you want something bling or Surly/ Andel if you want cheap and cheerful.
I have some wheels you might be interested in. I built a set of NOS Shimano 600 hubs (120/100) onto a set Ambrosio Evolution rims. For the exact same reason you are planning to do it. I also have a 16 and 18 Shimano DX cogs and Velo Solo spacers needed (and the lock ring - I used an old BB lock ring)
And you'll have to axle swap the rear hub (I've done this and it's easy enough). A QR will not hold wheel.
Thanks for the advice, I’ll check out stainless cogs
Thank you for the offer, I’ve already ordered the wheels now. I’ll check out and see if I can axle swap for the SunXCD too. The VeloSolo spacers look pretty cool too.
Bike has been stripped completely and all of the components have been ordered.
The new Force CX 1 Crankset has been installed and a new smooth Bb. Sets up with a 46mm chainline which should be easy enough to space out on the SunXCD hub.
Subbed, still have my frame & forks not doing much in the shed.
Will you be racing on this?
