  • My wife found it in the garden a few doors down, we believe their misjudgement, although were mortified at the guy across the street's suggestion that we just take any old bin as we all need one. Levy will be some kind of communist hell hole if we all start thinking as such.

  • I live in flats, so we have two massive bins I know one gets collected on Thursday and one on Friday but no idea which is which, I don't know what I'll do when I move to a house

  • take any old bin as we all need one

A near neighbour regularly puts 2 bins out to everyone else's 1.

She has paint-numbered both bins but one number is clearly painted over another nearby houses number. This could blow up massively when they realise. #eastendersdrums

    Bin fire time!

  • Gripping stuff ...

Bin collections this morning Eglinton Rd
Was anybody woken up this morning at 4.30 by the bin man putting bins to the kerb ?
I challenged him & his reply “you want your bins emptied “ I said not at this time waking the street up ! I’ve put in an official complaint to the council!

Bit much? A bit of short term pain for you which I'm sure you'll get over. They worked all over the Easter weekend (on two bank holidays) to make sure bins were emptied on time. They are down staff numbers and many are volunteering. Bexley have reduced most bins to every 2 weeks during lockdown, we should all count ourselves lucky we have a continuous service. Thank you to all those who are keeping our bins emptied regularly!

I’m not questioning the fact that the bins are being emptied & I’m sure the staff are being paid for working extra shifts it still has no bearing on being woken up at 4.30 in the morning by a workman making no effort to go about his business with regard to other people’s well being!

Be grateful that your bins are being emptied. Many councils have reduced their services.

The Bins being emptied are why I pay my Council tax if they want to go to a fortnight service then so be it but it will only encourage more fly tipping if they do !

I would retract your complaint, they will stop collecting your rubbish! They are doing great work, and yes its a service we pay for, but considering the circumstances I cant believe you've complained .

No I’m not retracting my complaint, they provide a service which I pay for and 4.30 in the morning is unacceptable to wake up the street !

Perhaps you should consider well before acting in such an arrogant manner. These are difficult times which require unusual working practices. I am sure your beauty sleep can be caught up with - your bins cannot. I do hope he does not collect your bin next time.

There is nothing arrogant in my manner, I worked for Greenwich for over 40 years & the reply I received this morning was unacceptable at any time but especially at 4.30am

I’ve got a lot more to do thank you but the guy this morning was deliberately making as much noise as he could to wake people up , we have nurses & other key workers living in this street who I’m sure would of liked to have got a good nights sleep!

Bill Essex nicest way possible, maybe you need some help seeing things clearly. 20+ responses in agreement / saying the same thing. Also the amount of replies you’ve given on here, I think you have plenty of time on your hands and nothing better to do.

0430 suits me fine - I'm out at work. If they do it after 0800 I'm back home and trying to sleep. Just leave them to do it whenever they can - whatever time they pick won't please everyone. I expect they're working longer days than usual to cover for staff absences.

& why shouldn’t the bins be emptied? Yes I’m fully aware that a person comes in the morning to put kerb side & check to make sure the idiots who can’t recycle & put any crap in blue or green bins so get the red tag ! But 4am crashing bins outside is still unacceptable no matter how grateful!

Judging by the comments, your actions are very much in the minority. May I suggest that you take a step back and review your position. It is unacceptable for you to criticise key workers who are simply doing a very difficult and somewhat dangerous job, so that you do not have to stockpile your rubbish.

Thanks but I’m very careful about how much waste I produce so could easily go 3 weeks with out a collection, My complaint was about the guy waking the street up & not giving a thought to key workers who are trying to sleep in our street ! I would of let it go if he hadn’t then decided to start on the other side crashing about !

I agree with everyone else you should retract your complaint and apologise plus you should be thanking the bin men for even emptying the bins. They must empty thousands of bins a week and they and their families are at risk of contracting coronavirus because of this.
Okay its a bit inconvenient to have them come round as early as they did but so what these are difficult times. Our bins men also remind us to wash our hands after moving the bins back onto our property.

Thanks for your comments , I totally disagree about the dangers of the job , but my issue was the guy was making no effort to be quite about the movement of bins in fact I thought he was enjoying waking the street up and we have Carers and nurses trying to sleep ! Come on Bill, I’m pretty sure the guy would rather be in bed cuddling up to his wife rather than yanking your rubbish into the street, agreed it is a bit annoying being woken up, but you can turn over and go back to sleep, the bin man can’t.
Look at all these reply’s to your comment, not one agrees with you, so either you’re right and everyone else is wrong, or you’re wrong and everyone else is right.
When we are all out of these wretched times you can go back to finding problems with everything, until then, give people a break, we’re all doing the best we can.

My bins are being emptied today, as the have every week throughout the current crisis. Rather than enter into a debate with Mr. Essex, I will be writing to Greenwich to compliment them on their service. Perhaps others of a similar mind to me, would like to do the same.

There is some key workers who come home at 8/9am and go sleep until 3pm this could also be disturbing for them if it was in the day. Right now whatever time it is I don’t think it matters as long as we have our bins emptied. The excuse of key workers being awake is not valid, my husband works shifts and he goes to sleep around 9am and the bin guys come at 11am and 2/3pm for the recycling bin. Hubbies not complaining and I’m sure many other key workers are not. Let’s leave out the key worker excuse and be grateful for every service doing there job. I pay council tax too however if they wanted to be at home and stay safe I would continue paying my council tax. Surely lives are more important then a bin being emptied once a week at 4am. 😏

The council depot doesn’t open until 5.00. Did you remember to put your clock forward?

  • Parklife

There is a whole thread on that and pondlife too which I will spare you.
    :)

  • I live above a shop which means they collect the rubbish every evening. Not sure if this means every night is Bin Night or no night is Bin Night.

  • Hot news from Castle Black/Barnet: Garden waste collections are resuming on May 9th!

  • we've had our brown bins done twice in a week here in the northern powerhouse

  • Best lockdown euphemism of the day so far...

  • Levy will be some kind of communist hell hole if we all start thinking as such.

And liver failure hotspot. This week 3 neighbours asked for use of our spare brown bin capacity to deal with booze bottle overspill. I’m clearly doing lockdown all wrong.

  • They wouldn't have found any room in mine.

  • Does Levy have brown bins for glass? What's your council? Up here (Bury) glass goes in the blue one.

very keen to hear from the rest of the bin day community

  • Brown for tins and glass, blue for card, green for food and garden stuff.

  • You guys are killing me here. I can't put the bin out until Tuesday night!

  • Sunday for me...

  • Ah, I'm in Broadland district, rather than Norwich :'(

  • I had this in mind as a topic for the Bin sub-forum once (if) @Velocio agrees to it of course.

Same as @snottyotter here but we've also Grey Bin for general shite. All the Green Bin stuff is supposed to go in there for now too as there will be ******no****** Green collections.

@BareNecessities deferred gratification is the best!

  • We have a green bin for general waste and a grey for recycling

It still messes with my head

  • Hip Hop Slave Bin thread incoming

Drive side shots and closed lids only!

  • Madness, I didn't even mention grey for everything else as I thought it was a universal truth.

  • guys in our ends green = paper and brown = compost type shit i'm like

  • Ikr. What kind of sicko thinks grey = recycling?!
