  • Keyboardco have them. Also you have to search on Keychron for the UK iso version (in a separate section).

Unless that’s what you ordered and they just sent you the wrong one?

  • No K4 is ISO as far as I can see. It's just two keys that really bother me. I'll work something out or just remap them and get used to it.

Already remapped the print screen and tilde buttons.

  • Nope, I'm an idiot and ordered the wrong one

  • Ah well, that's what I get for ordering in a rush.

  • Try emailing them and asking for a discount.

  • I emailed them. Totally my fault and will likely be a total pain in the dick to post back to China. It was an impulse so I totally rushed it. Lesson learned. I'll see how much it annoys me. I loved with a US laptop for 4 years as it got issued to me in the US when we got acquired. If it super annoys me, I'll buy the ISO version from the UK seller and sell on this one.

  • Or I'll see if any of my US colleagues wants it, as I'd happily gift it to them.

  • Found that one today, no idea how I missed it when ordering. Asked if I can return and pay the difference. I doubt they'll go for it.

  • There’s a 10% referral offer, so was thinking that there are people who have ordered already, and might be after 10% off another one themselves. @stevo_com

  • Huge fan of my RAMA Kara. tangerine switches, fully invested in HHKB now, need to shift some plancks

  • Got a Keychron K4 rgb hot swappable keyboard with gateron brown and fancy wood and resin palm rest on the way.

  • Keychron got back to me and said they would be happy to exchange, but the cost of shipping will likely make that pointless so I'm just going to sell the one I got and order an ISO and palm rest. They did offer a discount though, which is good of them, seeing it was my fault.

Anyone interested in the non-ISO model for cheap before it goes on eBay? Only a couple of days' use.

  • Winning (sort of)!

Worth going for the hot swappable version for $10 more?

  • That's what I did get, and will be getting on the ISO. Have no real need for it, but I thought, just in case.

  • Hi all. I asked advice a few pages/months back because I wanted to start using a mechanical keyboard (never been a fan of the super slim Mac keyboards)

I bought a cherry first, which felt so flimsy I returned it immediately. Then a Logitech G413 Carbon, much better built quality but the romer G switches feel a bit harsh to me, and the compatibility with Mac with a couple of keys z swapped annoyed me a little.

Finally I bought a Keychron K4 with Gateron brown switches, refund l second hand (though virtually new) from ebay. It was already fitted with rubber rings. Really love it, getting used to the compressed layout little by little (96%). So I was pleased having found something that feels and looks nice. I decided to buy a second one from the keyboard company (who have been super helpful over email) for my computer at work. It arrived last week. To my disappointment the gateron brown switches feel different . A little noisier (I've added rubber rings too), the travel isn't as smooth, and a louder click when the switch travels back up.

I wondered if there could be manufacturing consistency issued but looking closer I discovered that the older keyboard had some kind of greasy residue around the switches, under the caps. Which the new keyboard doesn't have. EBay seller of the first keyboard says he didn't do this, and it was like this from factory. The keyboard company says the switch are self lubricating so it would be odd to lubricate them further.

I looked briefly at how to lubricate switches online, seems like a lot of patient work.

Anyone cracked this kind of problem before?

  • Selling the Logitech if anyone's into these (probably not from what I've seen over the pages)

  • seems like a lot of patient work.

    basically, yeah.

Sounds like somebody lubed the original board, maybe keychron used to lube them prior to sale but stopped?

Just do one or two keys a day and or take an evening and do it while watching a movie or something. There are kits you can buy to make it easier.

  • Thank you for confirming... Been working today with the new keyboard, maybe after a little while it'll get a little softer to the touch, and I'll hopefully get used to it...

  • It won’t loosen up. If you can’t be assed to desolder your board a lube pen is a good alternative

  • Wow, didn't realise switches needed to be removed to access the part that needed to be lubricated! Now I'm certain I'll never bother!
The slightly noisier keyboard is now in the office, I've kept the nicer one at home. I don't mind that much, still feels nice overall, I'm over the disappointment they're not absolutely identical.

  • I have this keyboard, and like it, so I want another for home use, but less noisy. Is it a case of just swapping out all the switches for silent ones? They are Kalih, so would they need to be swapped out for another Kalih model, or would any switch brand work?

  • Doesn't look like the switches on that keyboard are hot swappable.
