Custom Titanium Sturdy Cycles

Posted on
  • After a lot of research and conversations with different builders (Moots, Brad Bingham, Enigma and Sturdy Cycles) I opted for Sturdy Cycles and Tom to design and build my new bike. This was primarily down to speaking with him and also talking to several people who have a Sturdy Cycles build and how highly they rated the whole process. Tom's communication has been excellent, not something I've always found in the custom frame builder world. Another key factor was that Tom accepted cycle to work vouchers through the Green Commute Initiative. Luckily I was able to convince work to sign off on a C2W purchase late last year and got the order in before Covid-19 hit (there's no way they'd sign it off at the moment).

Tom is building the frame and supplying forks, headset and BB, everything else I've managed to source from the Forum, Ebay or Facebook Marketplace. It's a pretty high end build but there have been some bargainous purchases along the way which have massively helped!

I'm hoping Tom will finish the frame any day now (although not sure when I'll be allowed to collect it).

    Build Spec is:

Sturdy Cycles Road Race Disc Frame
    Enve Road Disc Fork
    C-Bear T47 Bottom Bracket
    Integrated Hope Headset
Dura Ace Di2 9170 Hydraulic Groupset
    Enve Stem
Pro Vibe Superlight Di2 Carbon Bars
    Moots Cinch Post
    Specialized Power Saddle Pro
DT Swiss 240 hubs with Lightbicycle WR38 Rims
    GP 5000 Tyres
    King Cages

I've attached the geo for the bike.

As and when I get pics through from Tom I'll update this thread.

  • well...that'll be fucking banging

  • Here's hoping. Just really hope I don't have to wait a few months before I can pick it up and ride it!

  • Did you compromise on anything? It looks an awesome build!!

  • I've been acquiring parts for it for about the last year so have been patiently picking bits up. I don't think anything other than the wheels and tyres were bought from a retailer. I'd have loved to have gone AXS for the groupset but the DA 9170 was probably my biggest bargain pick up of the lot and I couldn't justify the cost of AXS.

  • What happen to your last titanium bike I saw ?

  • Still got it, it's my winter / audax / bike packing bike. The Sturdy is a replacement for my Canyon.

  • Nice one

  • hows it going? any progress on getting the frame?

  • Tom has been making PPE for the NHS so my build has been pushed back.

He's starting to put it together this week so it should be finished after Easter.
