On the weekend developed a problem after I shifted down to the small ring on the front of my road bike (SRAM Rival groupset). I couldn't shift the FD back into the bigger ring.
When I push the lever, the FD moves the chain onto the big ring. If I hold the lever in place and keep pedalling, the chain will 'catch' the teeth of the front ring whilst I am still pedaling. However, if I release the lever, the FD will then travel back to the small ring position. It is almost as if the FD isn't 'clicking' into that bigger ring position.
I tried loosening off the nut holding the cable in place, pulling the cable tight then retightening but still have the same issue.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Check for a broken limit screw - same thing happened to a FD of mine a while back.
I fear the shifter might be buggered yes. I'll take another look at it shortly
After more fiddling and examination I snapped the cable :)
Time for a post-lockdown visit to the LBS I think
