Have a pair of oldish Dia Compe aero levers, would appear they need some kind of threaded ferrule / step thingy inside the lever body. Otherwise no brakes.
Anyone come across this / have a good bodge suggestion?
Whats the ID?
If I remember correctly I think you need these ferrules
Erm, nothing on the body or lever but on the band it says ‘Gran Compe Japan’ if that’s any use?
Ah. They don’t look like they have any thread? Maybe it doesn’t need any? Such mystery.
sorry, internal diameter!
Doh! Tricky to measure (only have short reach calipers) but looks to be about 7mm
Definitely it's not a stepped ferrule, no threaded either. The idea of the design is to allow a gentle exit of the cable and outer so the ferrule has a larger outside diameter than the hole on the brake lever body. I am sure I have seen it in other Dia-Compe aero brake levers but cannot confirm which model.
In the webpage of ISON distribution there are only these three types of ferrules for Dia-Compe road brake levers. (first one from right is for a reverse brake levers, middle one for non-aero road brake levers, and third one apparently for aero brake levers)
Ok, might try and get a pair of (or if anyone has a set kicking about?) the ones that remind me of...
Beat me to it. That's exactly what's needed and your explanation of their function is correct!
You know they won't work? It's the ones in the SJS link you need.
thanks all, will get an order in and report back
Well, excellent, the round-ended ones work perfectly. Bit of a phaff to keep in place while threading everything in but otherwise now have braking solved.
In other news I ordered two pairs (not realising they came in pairs) so if anyone needs them let me know...
Also, got them from Retro Road as cheaper than SJS and arrived in two days.
