does anyone know where i can get bar stock of nice weldable/machinable bicycle part appropriate mild steel? i want to make some propout plugs a la paragon. I made a practice one with some generic mild steel from metals4u or similar and while it machines fine, it really doesnt take to welding at all.
I think paragon uses 1018? s i guess that is a good bet but i cant find any bar stock to buy online
EN8 steel is easily machined and good for welding. Might be worth a look.
Ob nice OK, they have en8 on metals4u
I've used it in the past for suspension components for my race cars - wishbones and trailing arms - and they haven't failed yet.
awesome! ill get some now, im finding tigging to plate dropouts a pain in the butt, so will make so weldable plugs instead, should smooth things over a bit
I get all mine from Sheffield a supplier called Kelvin steels it's about 20 quid for 6m of en 8 if you don't need that much I have odds and soda of this stuff that just litters the place and goes to scrap....
So if ya ever get stuck give us a shout.
