I’ve got some well used 10 speed rival shifters and rear mech. The mech is slowly dying but the levers are fine so assuming 1:1 actuation is the only thing to consider will this mech work with my shifters? Should work fine on a 11-36 cassette too right? Much cheaper than a rival mech and cleaner than a lot of used ones that I could buy!
Should do, don't forget you'll need an inline barrel adjuster.
Thanks man. Why will I need the adjuster? Because the mech doesn’t have one?
Yeah, because the mech doesn't have one.
Great thanks, I wouldn’t have thought of that until mid install!
X7 definitely has the same ratio as Rival 10 and will work. Can’t say for sure about the X9 because I think the cable pull length might be different. I think there was a reason I got X7 for mine and not X9. Hold off buying until there are a couple more replies to confirm. The Art’s Cyclery chart used to have this info on it, but for some reason they took it down.
Edit: good news, it’s back up: http://blog.artscyclery.com/science-behind-the-magic/science-behind-the-magic-drivetrain-compatibility/
I use a Red 10s shifter and a X9 rear mech. Works fine.
I used the same combination for a while, but there's something about the geometry of the Sram mtb mechs that doesn't play well with road-size cassettes(12-28 & 12-30, in my case), particularly in the larger sprockets. Even with the B-screw all the way out I could never get the top jockey wheel anywhere close to the cassette.
