Moving to Glasgow

Posted on
  • Hey all. Planning on moving up to Glasgow after many years in London and a couple in Berlin. I lived in Maryhill as a kid but have no idea where to start looking in terms of area now. I'd appreciate any advice from people who know and cycle the city. Looking like it'll be a move first and find work later situation, so anywhere considered – though places with older buildings and flats a bonus. Would also appreciate literally any advice from people who have also done this move. Cheers!

  • Crosshill / Queens Park area . Not living there but visit daughter regularly.
    Nice old tenement building flats.

  • Southside is where it’s at.

  • I believe SouthSide is where its at. I was in the West End for a few years and have no moved out to Killearn. Village life outside of Glasgow is actually where its at IMO :-)

  • Lived in the West End, not too far from the Uni when I briefly lived there. Weren't as many students as I thought there would be.

  • Southside for sure. I'm in Pollokshields just now, which is dead nice. Further south eg Shawlands is a bit pricier and also the buildings tend to be a bit smaller, so you get less bang for your buck. Just bear in mind that the whole inner city isn't much bigger than Hackney and Islington together, so it's easy to cycle everywhere (if you don't mind getting wet!)

  • My daughter is up in Maryhill as a first year student. Enjoying it lots so far. Her excitedly telling her mum that their local pub was the one at the beginning of Trainspotting didn't go down as well as she expected :-)

  • Back on this after a year of clinging on by my fingernails to London through various short lets and one mid-lockdown eviction - finally time to accept that it’s just too fucked here and get out to somewhere better. If anyone knows of any good lets in Glasgow southside coming up (top tier would be somewhere I can live alone but good flatshares also considered!) please give me a shout. Cheers everyone

  • Well East side is where it’s at now... South got mad costly.

  • Have you sorted a move yet?

  • Nope, still in London!

  • We touch down in G31 next weekend. Cant wait to get even more potty mouthed.

  • Hey all, myself and my wife and our cat are moving to Glasgow very soon. We are looking for a 2 bed flat, unfurnished that will be ok with the cat.

Looking for west end, southside or central.

Seems like a lot of the flats right now are short term lets for COP. Does anyone have any recommendations / people to avoid etc?
