Cyclist dies in collision with lorry. RIP
So sad. Such a waste of a life.
RIP fellow rider.
Those lorry design changes/fines can't come soon enough.
Rode past this about an hour later but couldn't really see what had happened. Was really hoping it wasn't what it looked like.
Horrible news, RIP.
Horrific. Round the corner from me, this, and I hate riding on the south circular.
Not the time or place to discuss I know. First thoughts with and condolences to riders loved ones. Mindful of their awful loss. But local cyclists so so angry about this. Have wanted safe space on this road for long time. And day after a pedestrian injured on same road just other side of the town centre.
I won’t explain here as it’s not the place, but some context behind lack of cycle lanes can be found here:
Awful news; RIP rider
God, local to me too. So so sad.
Horrible south circular. RIP rider.
Immensely sad news
Mood dips as soon as black logo registers.
So sad. Sympathy & condolences.
True. RIP fallen comrade.
I only realised after a while of LFGSSing what the black logo meant, in place of the usual blue. So terrible to hear about.
Here's a follow-up article in which @saoirse50 is quoted:
No info yet on how it happened. RIP rider.
We have not heard definitively how the collision occurred. But information from a local seems to indicate that both driver and rider were heading in same direction. But road so narrow, it seems lorry driver may have clipped rider. I don’t want to speculate further as it’s possible riders loved ones may see this. And speculation won’t help them at all.
He has been named:
RIP Łukasz Binkowski.
Once again, condolences to his family and friends. If anyone knows the family and thinks it’s appropriate to ask (appreciate it may not be) a lot of local people have asked Lewisham Cyclists about organising a ghost bike and/or memorial ride to express condolences. LC would organise a ghost bike but not without family’s agreement.
