I’ve had an sks track pump for ages- it used to be ok at doing track tubs at 150psi+ but it seems to be getting insanely hard to use- I can hardly pump it above 15psi on my mtb. I’m 6foot4 former sprinter so I assume it’s not me that’s the issue!
In contrast I used one at a helpful local shop the other day and it was so easy to push down I nearly fell over! My cheap bontrager track pump I keep in Spain was equally easy- did 85psi on road bike and 30 psi on in laws town bike no issue.
Has anyone had similar or done a service on their pump? Sks sell the bits but don’t offer much advice on maintaining. It’s killing me at the moment!
Used them as shop floor pumps, they used to get a lot of use and a fair amount of abuse.
Also clean and lightly lube the seal (silicon spray is good but chain lube does the trick) at the bottom of the plunger.
Thanks I think that’s what I need, will try tomorrow
Would you unscrew the plastic cover to get at the seal to lube it or just spray some on the shaft and pump it a few times?
Unscrew the top, there’s a rubber bung/plunger at the bottom
SKS were great when mine developed a fault, no questions asked they posted me new parts and it was well out of warranty - worth asking them if cleaning it doesn't fix it
