'Bruce' the Black Swan, yesterday Hollow Ponds, finally!
Local magpie proving a willing model out of my front window
Lots of people don’t like them - too noisy, too vicious, too superstition-laden - but I’m a big fan.
Turns out that @Oliver Schick was correct. The bird of prey I posted in here about a month ago was indeed a Lammergeier. I coincidentally found myself chatting to a bird spotter who specialises in the Alps and Pyrenees at a wake yesterday and he was certain that it was a juvenile.
Even though it was over a month since we saw it, we feel a bit of a buzz now we know what it was! That's the first time we've seen a bearded vulture in the summer.
Its also pretty awesome to see a juvenile bearded vulture in the place that we did. They only have a couple of breeding pairs in that part of the region. So nice to know that they have bred successfully!
Swan getting ready to give out some attitude. I gave it it's space after taking this.
I know him - thats Frank the Fracture, best avoided.
Ah, I thought it must be that. A little mystery resolved.
Hundreds of greylag geese out in the barley fields this morning
Oh, brilliant egret! Is it a great white?
Yes Great White, still looking for a cattle egret but not found one locally yet although I am sure it's only a matter of time
I keep meaning to head to Otmoor, about 10 miles from here, to see the cattle egrets that have settled there.
Ha, I might be going there tomorrow depending on what time work finishes so will keep my eye out if I make it
Weather looks fab tomorrow. Alas I will be at work all day.
Made it there but not until 530, so not enough time with good light but got to watch a great murmuration, sadly not cattle egrets though
Thought this was a great photo of an Osprey:
I got there this morning with my aged parents, so not an early start or a long stay, but lots to see.
Ended up at medieval festival where they had a Falconer.
Crowds plus 10x zoom so not best pic quality.
And this chap
This dude is always hanging out on these wires
Can anyone ID this bird call?
Owl of some description would be my guess.
Possibly Tawney doing the non 'twit twoo' call? Similar to this at the start but not identical:
Am I wrong to think there's some distress in this call? It seems strange that it would go on as it did for several minutes, repeated so frequently.
[https://fieldrecordings.xyz/] features, today, the sound of me and my brother listening to nightjars next to the final mile of road on the Dunwich Dynamo
