Where can I get a bike in New York?

Posted on
  • I will be spending about 6 months every year from now on in the city of New York for work.

The plan is to live in Brooklyn and commute to Manhattan daily... of course prefer bike over the smelly piss-carpeted train.

Wondering if anyone can give any suggestions on where (online & offline) to get used bike and bits in New York? an americano cousin of LFGSS perhaps?

    Thank you!!

  • King Kog in Brooklyn is a good place to visit (in person) for good selection of cool used stuff.
    Also look on nycyclique.com.
For tighter-budget stuff, start scanning Craigslist NY.

  • If you like Condor and Rapha style then NYC Velo is such a cool place. Think they now have a couple of stores on Manhattan.

  • There’s that shop under the Brooklyn bridge at the Brooklyn end. No idea what they’re called but they had some cool old stuff and the staff were really into it.

  • @blowfish may have some recommendations?

  • Thank you!!!! These have been really helpful.. tbh I found it seems to be way more expensive to build a bike in that side of the Atlantic ...

  • I found http://fixed.gr was pretty good when I was out there earlier in the year.

  • Recycle-a-bicycle is the spot, no question. They have a shop in Brooklyn (it was in Dumbo but has now moved) and they have store is LES. They're great for spares and the occasional cool-as-shit bike for not many dorrah.

The mechanics are good. My commute was Brooklyn to Financial district. Pretty easy but the Manhattan bridge could be quite busy.

  • What do you do and can I come work for you
