Coverting Sram eTap to 1x

  • Has anyone had experience with converting Sram 11spd eTap to 1x? Or can anyone suggest a reason why it wouldn't work?

  • assuming the rear mech is not clutched you might have problems with the chain dropping but if you have a narrow wide and a chain guide there shouldn't be any issues

  • You'll be limited to whatever is the max capacity of the eTap derailleur.
Apparently 28t, unless you can bodge something

  • Not really. Just a NW ring will do the trick, unless you have a particular affinity for riding down stairs.
Clutch was born out of necessity in the mtb world and has minimal use in gravel/road unless you like riding particularly aggressive gravel; even then, a normal eTap derailleur will do just fine.
@Netakure Just throw a cheapo roadlink copy on there and eTap derailleur will do 36t just fine.

  • I’m running 11-36 with 46/34 with a road link with the wifli.
My question would be, Do you need FM RM and shifters to sync for it to function?

  • No, which is why 1x etap works on all the silly 1x Katusha TT bieks, and why the RD will work if the FD runs out of battery. Chuck the FD in the bin if you desire.

  • Chuck the FD in the bin if you desire.

I know it's Sram but come on...
