  • Harsh.

Some tweaks, but in general looks great. Think it deserves better wheels, Mavic are a bit meh.

  • I think it's the Ultegra groupset. Never looks that nice.

  • Tough crowd. I think the newer Shimano cranks are too chunky for the skinny steel tubes.

  • In electric gears news, I really like the synchro shift mode.

I won't be riding this up anywhere muddy:

  • I think is looks cool! Bravo!

It's worth noting that the retro-modern bikes that get all the hugs and kisses tend to have deeper rims...
I think a pair of handbuilt carbon clinchers might be an idea?
Or use deep alu rims with a silver finish or a gun-metal finish to match the groupset...

  • Functional.

  • Scenery, and top tip for saddle pack users: a bit of silicone tubing slit lengthways makes a good tube protector, to prevent rubbing.

I am having fun on my new bike, which is all that counts. Even if my wheels look shit :)

  • Aw man! I feel bad now. I think it looks great, I miss my Gazelle. It’s heartwarming to see one in the wild being ridden on roads that do it justice.

  • Amazing frame, total sleeper of a build as well. Looks great!

  • being ridden on roads that do it justice.

I was in the Rhine gorge in Switzerland, on a road with overhanging rock bridges, precipitous drops, hairpins and everything. Scorching day today.

  • Closer up of just the bike for your entertainment. As you see I am using the proper fork because i) it's really shiny, and b) I couldn't get the crown race on the carbon one properly in any case. In the unlikely event I get some ridiculous deep carbon rims one day I'll try it then. Perhaps I will rattlecan a silver/blue fade on it. Don't hold your breath though.

  • Don't hold your breath

...at least not at 2046 m above sea level! I like how you got a couple of 'meh' reviews and came back with 'yeah ok here I am riding it over the alps' 👍😁

  • hello the lightbicycle wheels are still available.

Early christmas present to self. I had to use 23c tyres because 25c tyres come out 28mm wide on these rims, giving literally paper-thin clearances to the chainstays. 23c tyres end up 25mm wide; rims are 17mm wide.

Now I'm going to take them back off again until the sun comes out in March.

  • I bloody love it.

  • I had the same problem as your bike only have one set off bosses for bottle cage luckily they make 750c drink bottles

  • Yeah, I'm using a large bottle there in the picture. And I'm not riding it on the moon so I can always stop at a shop if I get thirsty.
Very happy with the way this bike has turned out. Loving the spage-age electric gears too, although they make my other bike feel like farm machinery with its primitive cables.

  • Yeah my old bike only had I bottle holder and the biggest bottle available before the ride to France was a 750c. Most days it was fine like you said just pop into a shop or a cafe. But the worst day was sunday every where was bloody close :-((

  • Forgot to say love you bike :-)

  • Cheers, me too

  • Ahoy! I’m planning on hacking some di2 in a similar fashion and was wondering if you could share your learnings - I’ve got a frame with breather holes and need to get the di2 cable thicknesses down as much as possible so as not to have to modify the frame - do you have a link to the cables you purchased?

Cheers in advance! How’s the gazelle treating you?

    Cheers,
    Matt

  • My chainstay breather holes were too small for di2 wire so I spliced in a thinner section of earphone cable split in two, which was thin enough to go through, then disguised the join by putting it the right distance from the end of the cable such that it can go in the cable stop: https://www.lfgss.com/comments/14798192/
My breather hole was conveniently positioned right next to the cable stop, underneath the stay. The blob of sugru on the inside of the stay in my picture is hiding the thinner section of wire.

On your bike though, the breather hole is a long way from the cable stop so that won't work. If your breather is big enough, you might be able to get the cable through if you cut one end off, fit a bit of heatshrink over it for strain relief where it goes through the hole, then solder the end back on when you pull it through to the bottom bracket. Or you could drill the hole out enough to do that.

do you have a link to the cables you purchased?

I just got a metre or so of cheap (i.e. thin) headphone cable off ebay, and split it down the middle.

    How’s the gazelle treating you?

It's great, I'm really pleased with it. And I am loving the electric gears too.

  • 👍🏻👍🏻 Excellent - thank you

  • I couldn't get the crown race on the carbon one properly in any case

Just get a split race then you don't need a tool to set it. Although I think it'll look best with the original forks anyway. I think it looks really nice and the AA frames are meant to be near unbeatable for ride quality.

  • Yes, I have stuck with the original fork and put the plastic one in the parts bin where it belongs.
