Not sure if they’ve already been mentioned Speedster are pretty decent for a cheap light meths stove. Not as quick as a trangia possibly but much lighter and work with whichever pan you have
I do remember seeing that, so either someone posted it here or I stumbled onto it while searching for stove options.
Any idea which of their stoves though? They have different sizes with different features.
I think the lidded design makes more sense, so maybe the 50mm (then again, maybe bigger isn't always better)
Mmm... gold... https://speedsterstoves.co.uk/30ml-spill-proof-meths/alcohol-burner.html
That's basically just a beer can stove isn't it
Looks a bit more solid. But even if it was, I'd rather pay a fiver for someone else to make it rather than piss about with cans. It's got seals too so hopefully won't leak when closed.
Whats the consensus on cutlery? Spoon, fork, knife thats able to cut root vegetables.
Am I over thinking it? Metal or plastic?
With a pen knife.
Long-handled spoon. Everything else can be punched into edibleness.
I hate plastic stuff.
Good enough for me.
Carrying a knife or knives can be handy if you're doing proper cooking and/or lighting wood fires or whittling spoons in your spare time.
I'll have a small Victorinox knife and generally be cooking things that are various forms and degrees of lumpy mush/misery sand.
Not the end of the world if I have to pick up a 14 inch serrated blade at some point.
I had a couple of plastic sporks that I bought on impulse ages ago. Used one on ultras until it snapped. I think we took the other one on the An Turas trip so I assume it's still in one piece. I definitely try to avoid buying plastic stuff if there's a metal alt.
Aye you're right don't fancy plastic stuff. Long and metal. Got it.
Trangia triangle (https://www.outdoorgear.co.uk/Trangia-Triangle-sku53101801.asp) or Alpkit Concertina (https://alpkit.com/products/concertina) may work?
Trangia triangle looks to be discontinued but may be able to find similar knock-off products on amazon
"Sorry, this item is currently out of stock."
I've been looking for a Triangle for a while. I'll end up with something else because I can't find it anywhere.
At the risk of sounding like a complete twat, I hated the "mouthfeel/texture on lips" of my titanium spoon until I polished it to a mostly mirror finish.
I've heard of similar complaints of the "fizzy" metal feeling. I think the ones I bought were pre-polished.
I just went for a Sea to Summit Alpha Light alloy spork...might have the same issue. Cross that bridge if I come to it.
