Tight cassettle on Hope Pro 2 Evo rear hub

  • did a re build of my rear Hope Pro 2 Evo 10 speed hub

now back together the cassette feels a little bit tight, as though it is dragging everso slightly on something, it doesn't spin quite as nicely as it used to, all bearing seem fine to the touch

what have i done wrong ? any suggestions

    lockring too tight ?
missing washer deep down in the bowels of the hub ?

  • there didn't appear to be any seals left siting on the workshop floor when i'd finished and as i had a spare freehub body around i could check the correct direction for the seals, they were put in the right way

could my greasing of the pawls / springs been a bit overzealous and put a bit too much grease in ? what effect would that have ?

  • Did you remember the barrel spacer? ( part no 4 )

Excess grease could slow things down, but you'd have to use a lot, or some sticky grease.

  • did you change any of the bearings?

  • could my greasing of the pawls / springs been a bit overzealous

What did you use? Actual grease or a nice, light oil?

  • i'll whip off the free hub body and check inside the hub

no bearings were changed, it was a dismantle clean then a put back together again, everything seemed fine in there, no bearings were touched

i used a bearing grease, a similar looking amount to that which i found from the factory set up when i dismantled, i've done a few before and always just stuck a couple of blobs in the gaps before the pawls and springs went back in, and a bit on the teeth the pawls engage with

  • What's it like with the cassette off and done up in the frame

  • Did you fit the 2mm spacer (number 9)?

  • ok all sorted, two small rookie errors
a spacer in the cogs / block wasn't sitting properly causing a mill. extra on the rear block plus i hadn't " popped " the freehub body onto the hub properly so it wasn't sitting properly once again, once the quick release squeezed shut the two issues combined or individually were causing a bit of friction somewhere in there

    running lovely now

    clickety click
