This is LFGSS, so Gatorskins are the only real option here

I think I have a Magic Mary somewhere, from memory it was (is) very heavy

After slashing a DHR on the first run of the day at Dyfi I had to buy a pair continental der kaisers (I couldn’t bring myself to run a maxxis on the front and conti on the rear). They are far grippier than anything else I’ve ridden at the relatively high pressures I run. I’ll be getting another pair when these are worn. Worth a look if you can find them in stock, especially if you’re going to be riding this bike on rougher/rockier trails

Last one on the list on this page?
-
• #6081
Yes, if you can live with tan walls…
-
• #6082
I think I’ll end up with whatever I can order two of, which is a pretty small list at the moment.
-
• #6083
Tan walls are in stock, which is handy. Michelin Wild Enduro I can’t find.
-
• #6084
Belay that, I think Merlin has them.
-
• #6085
No, spoke too soon. They've got a front but no rear.
-
• #6087
I've got some on backorder, one of them is coming 4 weeks later than the other

I'll have a look at what the Magic Mary is in the garage tomorrow when I a) can be arsed and b) can see what I'm doing.

I was about to suggest Vittoria Mazza, as they've had good reviews, but then I tried to find them in stock...

yeah the Magic Marys are heavy. But any tyre that weighs less than a kilo isn't going to be tough enough.
I was running 2.6" dh casing MM's that weighed just over 1400g! Last year I went to 2.4's and a step down from dh casing, think its called super gravity and they still weigh 1200g.
To be fair, the Maxxis alternatives with dh casing are in the same ball park. -

Something EXO Plus from Maxxis? Save the DH casings for uplift days
Unless that is, the bike will only be used on uplift days?

Duro Crux

It’s going to stay at home for most of the time unless I’m heading somewhere that quite possibly has an uplift, I suspect. I can swap wheels back and forth but the RAAW takes a 203mm rear rotor and my other bikes are 180, so a (small) degree of faff.
-
• #6094
my other bikes are 180
The method to figure out what rotor size you need:
Do you weigh over 50kg?Yes>>200mm
No>>200mm -
• #6095
Time for me to seek out some 300mm rotors then
-
• #6096
I would if I could
-
• #6097
The new frame and fork take 203 natively. I could go 220 on the front, although at 82kg I don’t find my current front lacking.
But the Madonna will be heavier, faster, and ridden on steeper and longer trails.
-
• #6098
The 295 can’t go bigger than 180 on the rear.

I hope Pace are taking notes from this thread for updates on the v2 295

I think a 160/170 bike would struggle to pretend it’s an XC bike tbh.
