• 2.6 crazy grippy on the front, something faster on the back?

  • grippy on the front, something faster on the back

Always good, especially on a hardtail when the back is just skipping about on the descents any. Steer with your rear...

  • EXO casing isn't that robust but I guess Morgins is quite "bike park" and so not particularly rocky. Decent tyres though.

Maybe I've been unlucky or perhaps it's my penchant for rough natural trails but I've learnt from bad experiences that sidewall cuts halfway down a big mountain are not much fun!

I'd say it was very well groomed, some sections were extremely rooty, but nothing stuck in my head from a sharp rocks perspective on the trails, although some of the fire-roads (which form a skiing red-run later in the year) were sliding carpets of rocks. I never really worried about punctures though.

Walking down the mountain would indeed suck, but I have a boot'n'tube that I take with me after having to walk back down from Super Morzine a couple of years ago.

  • As a newcomer to the world of big tubeless tyres, what is the recommendation for puncture repair kit? Spare tube and one of those plug things?

Edit. Apologies if ot re Hippy

  • it's a blue SID

What did I fucking say about SIDs?!

Kidding sure it will be great

For close UK stuff I take a Stans tyre plug tool and a pump, for bigger terrain/further away I add a tyre boot and inner tube to the kit.

  • I spec ev shimano dropper lever btw

  • Honestly, I don't remember. I only see your stuff when people quote you.

    #ignoreburn #psyche

  • Depends how far you're going. I carried the Paranoid Bastards Tubeless Toolkit during Badlands which included tube(s), Dynaplug and spare plugs of both kinds, needles and various threads, some kind of tape - maybe Gorilla, an actual tubeless tyre patch kit, Lezyne mini-track pump, but no C02 because those are from the devil and probably a bunch of other shit like two kinds of tube patches, pliers help for pulling stuff out of tyres, I think I had the cheaper anchovy kit too because I owned it and I've never used Dynaplug in anger so like, just in case...

  • Yep, looks like a lever.

  • Thanks both.. Better buy a dynaplug before travel allowed up here. My inner Aberdonian struggles with £30 for some rubber plugs and an aluminium tube.

On the tyre front, I've got 2.6 f&b and they seem a bit big going through the local trail rockgardens.

The blue f&f should look great.

  • I was of the same opinion but having fought with anchovies before and seeing everyone rave about Dynaplugs made me get one.

  • I've got the Stans No Tubes Dart repair kit, figuring that as I use the sealant it would be good idea to use a repair plug that was designed as a system.

  • Maxxis do have an EXO plus casing now, which could be a good option for real mountains

  • I'm pretty sure I'd be able to buy an EXO+ in Morzine, should I destroy an EXO when I'm out there.

  • For close UK stuff I take a Stans tyre plug tool and a pump

Sensible. It's remarkable how many people run tubeless but don't carry a plug kit. It's a damn sight easier than putting a tube in!

  • Maybe less so with MTB tyres but on a cold night or with wet/cold hands it might be impossible to remove some tubeless tyres. I've got SuperThumbs™ and it took me fucking ages to mount GP5000 TL (that's the worst example I've dealt with) but even separating a glued on bead could be trouble for people with weak hands, sore hands, cold hands, etc.

I'd always try and repair TL from the outside first.

  • Tubs are a lot easier to deal with, roadside, than tubeless

  • Especially when you can just grab them off the mechanic.

  • Have you used it yet? Any glowing reports or otherwise?

  • Especially when you can just grab them off the mechanic.

I find toe-strapping a mechanic to the saddle rails makes them cross, so I just do that with the spare tub.

  • Have you used it yet? Any glowing reports or otherwise?

No, no experience to report I'm afraid.

  • Has anyone used a Dynaplug?

  • Lots of people on youtube :)

  • Current EDC on mtb is a packet of fags and a lighter!
