I wonder if I have actually met him. Back when I was a student I had the same Lindberg glasses that just broke, and I was standing in a bar and a woman approached me asking if she could take a photo of me because she and her husband, still sat at a table, worked for Lindberg and had never seen a young man use these specific glasses, in gold finish even. Their market at that time was Asians and elderly western European businessmen. I ended up going to their table and talking to her and her husband and it turned out he was a part of the team that designed the glasses.
I have often thought about applying for a job there but they don't seem that approachable. No contacts on their website etc. -

Brilliant, I was expecting a methodical, analogue and pragmatic approach to measuring and designing and testing and, finally making. I was not disappointed.
Good CAD/CAM work is on my list of things to properly learn this year - I can do the basics but like you say tutorials are all widely available. My 6th from student (she's 17!) knows more than I do now!! -

Cool stuff, casually making your own glasses

I'm zooming in on the eye to see how deep the tiny Hulsroy reflected in the glasses goes

Yeah. I was pretty pleased with that bit as well. Love those infinity drawing reels on IG

I work as design/cad engineer, and the best (and also most hair pulling my frustrating and difficult) way to improve your CAD skills is trying to redraw a physical object with just the object and a set of vernier callipers.
Bonus point if it is a curvy injection mildes multi part object.. ask me how I know. -

One of my starter projects for Year 12....is to do orthographic drawings and then CAD drawings of a physical object! But it does feel a tad hypocritical not having done any myself.

God I miss when CAD all day was my job.

+1 Lindberg fan club. Hinges for days

Could you do it alongside them?
Trouble shooting could be difficult if you don't have loads of experience yourself.
Shoot me a pm if you want to talk shop. -

There's other tasks to my current position as well, but CAD days are generally good days.

Frame looks awesome! We have an optician in the family so I'm not allowed any specs that come from somewhere else. :(
But if you need a place to sell them over here, I could hook you up!
Also looks like the protective coating if peeling off your lenses, this is usually covered by warranty. Which translates into new free lenses! Check with the optician you got them from. Also, go fluo! Flash bikes are best bikes.

The protective peeling is Def happening. These glasses are way overdue replacement. I have been putting it off because framebuilders can't have nice things.
The plan was to do new specs frames and test with these lenses and then when I am happy with a design bring it to an optician and have them make new lenses for me.My wife and I have been talking about making this into a business. Custom fit lenses where you choose from different models or bring your own design and then select from different colours/materials/hinges and get your own unique specs.
A part of the business would be 3d printed templates, printed while you get a coffee. And then get an in-house optician on board.
But I am now too busy on a different venture to do anything about it. So it will have to wait. Something for my 40's perhaps. -

Love to see it happening one day!
Hope you can share you next venture, looks exciting with the 3D printer. Anyway, hope I can still order my custom Hulsroy frame when the time comes!

Iβve restarted taking tutorials this half term holiday. Literally an hour or two every other day!! This has translated to being able to at least model simple parts! When I have a few more Iβll share them on my feed, and discussions will be welcome for sure!
